Clinical Research Technician, Neurology

Overview NEUROLOGY (IN-NEUR-IUINA) The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Neurology has a rich tradition in academic neurology with a national reputation in neurological education and neuroscience research. The department is located in the IU Health Neuroscience Center, a state‑of‑the‑art outpatient center that unites all specialties that involve nervous system disorders, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology, and Neuroradiology. It is also home to the main outpatient Neurophysiology laboratory at IU Health. Department‑Specific Responsibilities Identifies and recruits study participants. Administers study procedures. Collects, records, and processes data in electronic and paper formats. Assists with advertising, in‑person recruiting, and distributing paper flyers in the community. Creates and maintains social media and online recruiting tools. Assists in developing and sharing educational and informational resources with participants. Operates chemical sense equipment and maintains it for the studies. Coordinates administrative support functions for the research team: ordering supplies, processing travel, scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, managing Redcap and other submission systems. Provides support for grant submissions, agency reporting, regulatory compliance, and website maintenance as needed. Coordinates meetings with executive personnel, co‑investigators, and the project management team to ensure adherence to timelines. Acts as a liaison on behalf of executive team, faculty, staff, visitors, technical support, and other key personnel. Prepares correspondence from the principal investigator to partnering treatment centers and community organizations. Assists in identifying key resources needed for project success. General Responsibilities Assists in the conduct of clinical research studies or trials following established protocols and SOPs. Assists with identifying and recruiting subjects, scheduling appointments, performing screening, consenting, interviewing, and data collection in adherence to the study protocol and good clinical practice. Conducts routine experiments and/or coordinates research study procedures, collects and records study data in the database. Communicates and keeps researchers and the PI up‑to‑date on any problems or concerns related to the study. May be responsible for collecting clinical samples (e.g., blood, tissue) and maintaining storage. Assists with advertising and developing educational resources for participants and families. Ensures proper documentation of case report forms, regulatory documents, PI notes, and other mandatory study documents, maintaining quality and accuracy. Archives documents per sponsor, government, and institutional requirements, and provides necessary documents for regulatory audits. Maintains and manages inventory and research study supplies. May facilitate disbursement of study participant payments. Provides additional research support such as protocol research, literature reviews, grant preparation, manuscript editing, and transcription. Stays current on regulatory affairs and research best practices by attending continuing education, conferences, seminars, and project team meetings. Qualifications Education and Work Experience High school diploma or equivalent plus 5 years of patient‑related or research experience, including 2 years with clinical studies. Associate’s degree in an allied health profession plus 1 year of patient‑related or research experience. Bachelor’s degree in any field plus 3 years of college‑level science and 2 years of patient‑related or research experience. Bachelor’s degree in science or health‑related field.
