Gas Turbine Engineer/Specialist - open to Texas, Midwest, East locations

Gas Turbine Engineer/SpecialistCorporate level position supporting NRG's fleet of gas turbines across the country. Gas Turbine Engineer will provide on-site support for field inspections, condition assessments and run, repair, replace recommendations. Coordinate repair activities with various repair shops and suppliers. Assist in developing and/or reviewing quality plans in addition to monitoring and auditing supplier quality. Emphasis on communication amongst peers, site management, and leadership team. Review of equipment histories, applicable service bulletins, and operational history and requirements to develop long range plans for gas turbines. Support our culture for safety, environmental compliance, quality and diversity.Essential Duties/Responsibilities:Supports and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programsEvaluates component condition and repair optionsPerform site inspections and condition assessments to support maintenance planning and risk assessmentsParticipates and/or leads teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs for generating unitsCommunicates with customers regarding condition of equipment and repair work scopeInspects completed work or work in progress to assure job qualityCoordinates activities with Vendors/Contractors, other divisions and departmentsRecognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve themPerforms root cause analysis of system and equipment problemsDevelops quality work plans when requiredPerforms engineering calculations in area of responsibilityAssists in outage planning and economic evaluation of turbine projects as neededMay be required to manage projects in area of expertiseEnsures company resources are used in a cost effective mannerPrepares written reports in assigned area of responsibilityPerforms technical duties in area of responsibilityDevelops and maintains technical specifications for purchase of replacement parts, vendor repairs and maintenance standardsIdentifies and implements new or existing repair technology in area of responsibilityTrack service bulletins for gas turbines/generators and assess implementation and compliance strategyQualifies vendors and suppliers for parts and services in area of responsibilityUnderstand and evaluate non-OEM parts, services, and upgradesCollect and review operating data to identify mechanical and performance issuesWorking Conditions:Hybrid work environment with office opportunities in either, Houston, Pittsburgh or Princeton along with NRG Plant locations in the Midwest, East and Texas.Normal office environment and/or outside work environment (including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating plants)Requires travel to and from NRG plants or vendor facilities across the country (approx. 25% of the time)Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid driver's licenseRequires personal protective safety equipment while in the plantsOvertime or non-standard hours may be requiredRequires operating a personal computerMinimum Requirements:Gas Turbine Aero Engineer / Specialist (Texas, Midwest, East locations)Minimum of Baccalaureate Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and 5 years of experience in aero gas turbine equipment maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting. Or, a minimum of 10 years of experience in aero gas turbine equipment maintenance/repair, operations, and troubleshootingAll positions at NRG will require at least a high school diploma or GED equivalentFundamental knowledge of vibration analysis and balancing of large rotating equipmentFundamental knowledge of working materials and metallurgy of gas turbines and componentsFundamental knowledge of control systems for gas turbinesFundamental knowledge of GE LM6000 gas turbinesAdditional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Effective communication skills with craft personnel, site leadership, as well as management.Ability to take a leadership role meetings and communications around gas turbine issues.Project management skillsKnowledge of power plant systemsKnowledge of turbine repair processesAbility to prepare written reports and presentations to managementPhysical Requirements:Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment.The base salary range for this position is: $98,480 - $162,480* *The base salary range above represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonus, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
