The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, teach, plan, coordinate and monitor nutrition, cooking, garden, agricultural and health education activities for students and staff; provide in-classroom presentations to students and training to personnel to encourage healthy and nutritional eating habits; coordinate communications and serve as a technical resource concerning health and nutrition.

The Candidate

Education & Experience Requires any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, business administration or a related field including completion of an internship program, and one year experience in a school food service operation including some experience in menu planning and analysis

Licenses & Other Requirements Valid Food Safety Manager Certification; employees must fulfill certification requirement within the first six (6) months of the probationary period. Valid California driver's license.

The Details

Testing Information The examination process may be comprised of multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the job description. Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. This portion of the examination consists of an application screening used to evaluate the applicant's education, training, and experience relevant to the position. This portion is designed to gain an overall assessment of each applicant's education and experience as it directly relates to the duties and the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. It is important to complete the supplemental questionnaire carefully and accurately. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the qualifications appraisal interviews. Upon qualifying, applicants will be notified by email regarding the procedures to schedule a qualifications appraisal interview. Notifications will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. Applicants must pass the training and experience application screening in order to move to the next step in the examination process. Step 2: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%) tentatively the week of July 28, 2026. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list. New Hires – Initial Salary Placement The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria: Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification) Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) To be considered for advanced salary placement upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period. Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years. Promotional and/or transfer candidates will be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations. Education Incentives All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification. General Requirements (Upon Offer of Employment) Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States. The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam. Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined. All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application. Other: Eligibles will be required to provide a current DMV report and/or proof of auto insurance to the Classified Human Resources Department before being certified for a final selection interview for positions that require the employee to drive a district vehicle and/or hold a valid California driver's license.
