Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Serve as a lead resource and point of contact for Medication Technicians.

• Assist the Director of Resident Care with oversight of daily medication-management operations.

• Perform medication administration duties as assigned and within the employee’s training and authorized scope.

• Monitor medication carts to ensure they remain clean, organized, properly stocked, and secured.

• Assist with medication cart audits and MAR reviews to identify missing medications, discrepancies, discontinued medications, medications on hold, and other concerns.

• Ensure medications are reordered in a timely manner to help prevent residents from running out of prescribed medications.

• Communicate with the pharmacy regarding refills, medication deliveries, cycle fills, missing medications, and other medication-related concerns.

• Notify the Director of Resident Care promptly of medication errors, narcotic discrepancies, missed medications, unavailable medications, or other significant concerns.

• Reinforce proper medication-administration practices, including following the MAR and current provider orders.

• Assist with shift-to-shift medication cart and controlled-medication counts according to facility policy.

• Help ensure Medication Technicians complete required documentation accurately and timely.

• Assist with training and orientation of newly hired Medication Technicians.

• Provide guidance and support to Medication Technicians when questions or concerns arise.

• Monitor medication supplies and communicate needs to the Director of Resident Care.

• Assist with preparing medication-related documentation and records for internal reviews, pharmacy reviews, or regulatory inspections.

• Communicate professionally with residents, families, pharmacies, healthcare providers, and facility leadership as appropriate.

• Report resident changes in condition or medication-related concerns promptly according to facility policy.

• Maintain resident confidentiality and follow HIPAA requirements.

• Provide direct resident-care assistance when necessary and appropriate.

• Perform Medication Technician duties when coverage is needed.

• Complete additional Resident Care duties as assigned by the Director of Resident Care.

Leadership Expectations

The Medication Management Lead is expected to model professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and attention to detail. The Lead should help identify and address medication-management concerns before they become larger issues and maintain consistent communication with the Director of Resident Care.

This position provides operational leadership and support to Medication Technicians but does not replace the authority of the Director of Resident Care or permit duties outside the employee’s credentials, training, or legally authorized scope of practice.

Qualifications

• Previous Medication Technician/Medication Aide experience preferred.

• Experience in an Assisted Living Facility or senior-living environment preferred.

• Current medication-assistance training/certification as required by applicable Florida regulations and facility policy.

• Current CPR/First Aid certification if required by the facility.

• Strong understanding of medication administration procedures and MAR documentation.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Ability to identify medication discrepancies and communicate concerns promptly.

• Ability to provide leadership and direction while maintaining a professional and respectful working relationship with staff.

• Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to maintain confidentiality.

• Must meet all facility and regulatory requirements for the position.

Accountability

The Medication Management Lead reports directly to the Director of Resident Care and works collaboratively with Resident Care staff to promote safe medication practices and quality resident care.

The Medication Management Lead is expected to immediately escalate significant medication errors, controlled-substance discrepancies, resident changes in condition, or other serious concerns to the Director of Resident Care or appropriate on-call leadership in accordance with facility policy.
