Why does the job exist?

The Senior Heavy Equipment Operator will:

• Conduct warehouse operations and oversee the monthly distribution of USDA Foods to more than One Hundred & Fifty Six (156+) School Food Authorities (SFAs) across New Mexico, supporting the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

How does it get done?

The Senior Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for:

• Ensuring all warehouse equipment, delivery trucks, and trailers are properly maintained and in safe working condition;
• Performing thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks and trailers;
• Conducting safety inspections of warehouse equipment prior to use;
• Operating heavy equipment in a safe and responsible manner at all times;
• Adhering to all FMCSA, DOT, State Laws, and Health Care Authority (HCA) Policies and Procedures;
• Following all state and federal regulations regarding food health and safety;
• Rotating inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices;
• Immediately reporting any food safety or quality concerns to management;
• Reorganizing existing stock to accommodate new inventory;
• Safely and accurately pulling, separating, and verifying delivery loads in a timely manner;
• Maintaining warehouse, office, and grounds to prevent health and safety issues, as well as other assigned duties.

• New Mexico Schools;
• Food banks participating in USDA Donated Food Programs;
• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligible population and all other New Mexicans experience food insecurity.

Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate will:

• Be courteous, provide excellent customer service, and maintain a positive attitude when interacting with the public, peers, and leadership;
• Possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License;
• Comply with random drug, alcohol, and substance testing in accordance with SPO Board Rules (1.7.8.11 NMAC);
• Have experience in a Warehouse including receiving, storage and inventory management;
• Achieve Department of Transportation (DOT) driving standards;
• Obtain and maintain a current medical card with no lapses;
• Obtain an Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) background check;
• Maintain certifications for forklift, pallet jacks, and other heavy equipment as required by OSHA and the State of New Mexico.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalent plus one (1) year of relevant experience operating heavy and light equipment in all types of terrain and/or relevant warehouse experience to include operating forklifts and class A/B vehicles. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. A commercial driver's license is required for this position.


Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License.

Must obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate.


Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely lift 60lbs. Work performed in freezers and coolers with freezers kept at -5 degrees F. Overnight travel required on a regular basis.
