Posting Summary The role of Mental Health Specialist III in the Addiction Services of Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care involves serving as a team member in maintaining a safe therapeutic milieu, providing support to staff nurses, transporting clients, and participating in group activities and crisis intervention. Key Duties Provides transportation and direct care responsibilities for consumers/patients as assigned. Engages consumer/patient in appropriate treatment interventions based on the service plan and supervisory directions. Interacts and communicates with consumer/patient in a therapeutic manner. Assists with consumer admission, transfer, and discharge procedures. Physical Demands and Work Environment Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to seventy (70) pounds multiple times a day. Some travel to client homes and community agencies. Work Environment: Moderate noise from office equipment and light traffic. Subject to unpredictable patient crises, medical, substance‑use related, and psychiatric situations. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens requiring personal protective equipment. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of experience in behavioral health services, or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology or a related field; or High school diploma and five (5) years of experience in behavioral health services. Certifications/Licenses: Valid driver’s license. For Social Work candidates: active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
