Mental Health Specialist III

Mental Health Specialist III – Partial Hospital Child and Adolescent Services Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) is seeking a Mental Health Specialist III to provide daily direct care services to consumers in the Partial Hospital Child and Adolescent Services program. The role requires competence in recognizing the unique needs and behaviors of children with emotional and/or developmental needs, and it includes participation in crisis interventions, culturally competent care, and person‑centered services. Duties Provides direct care responsibilities for individuals served as assigned. Engages consumers/patients in appropriate interventions based on service plans and supervisory directions. Interacts and communicates with individuals served in a wellness‑and‑recovery focused manner. Responds to crisis situations utilizing UBHC‑endorsed crisis intervention techniques and skills. Facilitates daily‑living skills groups and therapeutic activities as assigned. Education and Experience Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of experience in providing services to youth or a related field; or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant social or mental‑health field; or high school diploma and five (5) years of experience in providing services to youth. Certifications and Licenses Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record. Applicants with a degree in Social Work must hold an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities No specific items listed in the posted description. Physical Demands Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds multiple times a day. Requires bending, lifting, sitting; time spent in a school environment. Some travel to client homes and community agencies. Work Environment Moderate noise in business office and classroom settings. Active and sometimes noisy program and classroom setting. Varied settings in homes. Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasional exposure to consumers exhibiting assaultive behaviors. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens requiring use of personal protective equipment. May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
