Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC) offers a full continuum of evidence‑based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. With 1,060 experienced professionals and a budget of $260 million, UBHC operates 15 sites statewide and provides inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization, screening, crisis stabilization, family and community support, and educational services. Posting Summary Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mental Health Specialist III in the Addiction Services of Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a team member in providing and maintaining a safe therapeutic milieu, to assist staff nurses, transport clients to and from treatment, and actively participate in group activity and crisis intervention. Responsibilities Provides direct care responsibilities for consumers/patients as assigned. Provides direct care services consistent with the philosophy of UBHC. Maintains appropriate consumer/patient records as mandated by UBHC policy and applicable accrediting organization standards. Responsible for transporting individuals served to treatment‑related activities. Maintains knowledge of UBHC and unit policies and procedures. Contributes to and supports the mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives of UBHC. Qualifications Three (3) years of relevant full‑time paid experience in the mental health field, or one (1) year of full‑time paid experience in the mental health field (part‑time and/or per diem experience may be substituted for the full‑time equivalent), combined with at least two (2) years of college majoring in a relevant mental health, social or human services field, including a minimum of twenty‑four (24) verified credits in psychology, social work, counseling, or related disciplines. Certifications / Licenses Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work. Valid driver’s license. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be able to pass pre‑employment and random drug/alcohol tests. Physical Demands and Work Environment Must be able to lift up to seventy (70) pounds multiple times a day. Some travel to client homes and community agencies. Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Exposure to unpredictable situations, patient crisis, medical, substance use related, and psychiatric events.
