Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time faculty member for the position of Academic General Gastroenterology Physician Scientist at the Professor rank within the Ladder Rank/In Residence series in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. This role involves a commitment to professional excellence, teaching, research, and service to the University and the community.

The primary focus of this position will be to develop and sustain a research program funded externally, specifically targeting cell therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

• Provide gastroenterology consultations and endoscopic services for IBD patients at outpatient facilities in the greater Sacramento area.
• Participate in on-call duties at the medical center.
• Oversee the training of fellows, residents, and medical students during consultations and procedures, along with delivering lectures to diverse audiences.

The Gastroenterology Division comprises 27 faculty members and 4 nurse practitioners, offering services across 5 clinics and 5 ambulatory endoscopy units, with plans for further growth. Our division excels in areas such as motility, IBD, advanced endoscopy, and has recently initiated a liver transplant program. Clinical research is bolstered by the GI Clinical Research Unit, which includes 8 research coordinators and supports over 50 ongoing studies. We have a rich history of delivering exceptional patient care and medical education, recently expanding our training program to accommodate 12 GI Fellows and 1 Advanced Endoscopy Fellow.

UC Davis Health serves a vast area of 65,000 square miles, encompassing 33 counties and 6 million residents in Northern and Central California. The UC Davis Medical Center is a large facility with over 600 beds, currently undergoing expansion, including the development of an innovation hub, Aggie Square, and the new 14-story California Tower.

Essential Qualifications (to be met at the time of application)

• M.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O., or an equivalent degree.
• Experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
• Clinical expertise and interest in IBD.
• Track record of securing extramural funding for IBD-related research.

Additional Qualifications (to be met upon commencement)

• Board certification or eligibility in Gastroenterology.
• Medical licensure or eligibility for licensure in California.
• Completion of an ACGME accredited fellowship or equivalent experience.
• Proven history of obtaining extramural funding, including NIH grants, along with publications and leadership in cell-based therapies for IBD.
• Expertise in IBD management and endoscopic techniques.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse environment.
