RN Medical Surgical

This position involves working in a Med-Surg and Telemetry unit. The facility is a Level III Trauma Center with a Magnet Designation. There are a total of 933 beds in the facility. The unit primarily cares for patients with chest pain, post-cath lab procedures, CHF, AFib, CVAs, TIAs, cellulitis, and AKI. Surgical patients are rarely encountered in this unit. Patients typically have an average stay of 36 hours. Expect to admit and discharge 2-3 patients daily. Patient ratios are 1:4-5 during the day and 1:6-8 at night. Patient care support includes a Charge Nurse, Unit Secretary, Clientists, and Respiratory Therapists available 24/7. Centralized telemetry monitoring is managed by telemetry technicians around the clock. Phlebotomy assistance is available for peripheral blood draws. The charting system utilizes EPIC. Job responsibilities include managing pain medication documentation and ensuring the pain score meets medication orders. Staffing includes a tech ratio of 1:5 days and 1:9 nights. Scrub colors can vary, excluding camouflage and denim. The scheduling rotation includes working every other weekend, with schedules created six weeks in advance. Holiday expectations include working one holiday per season. A fatigue policy is in place to limit total weekly hours.
