The Maintenance Technician builds, maintains, and repairs production machinery and mechanical systems in a food manufacturing environment. This role installs and assembles equipment, troubleshoots mechanical and electrical issues, performs preventive maintenance, and supports production teams with machine adjustments and changeovers. The technician ensures equipment operates safely and efficiently by identifying malfunctions early, conducting diagnostic tests, and completing timely repairs while maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble machines and mechanical components according to specifications and operational requirements.
• Troubleshoot reported mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems and resolve them in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on a variety of machines and devices to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Detect malfunctions through careful observation, including sound and visual inspections, to identify issues before they escalate.
• Run diagnostic tests to verify system functionality and confirm the effectiveness of repairs.
• Repair broken or faulty machine parts and restore equipment to proper working condition.
• Assist production staff with machine changeovers and adjustments as needed to support efficient production operations.
• Clean machinery components and apply lubricants to reduce wear and extend equipment life.
• Perform emergency repairs, including structural, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work, to address urgent issues and maintain continuous operation.
• Follow all safety rules, procedures, and regulations while performing maintenance activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment in compliance with facility standards.

Essential Skills

• Previous experience as a maintenance mechanic or in a similar maintenance technician role.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance practices in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Ability to perform PLC troubleshooting to support automated equipment.
• Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and working with industrial electrical systems.
• Ability to read and understand operating manuals, mechanical and electrical blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to safely operate lift trucks, platform lifts, and articulating boom lifts.
• Aptitude in using various hand and power tools such as wrenches, pliers, and hand drills, as well as precision measurement tools such as calipers.
• Excellent knowledge of machinery and related systems, including hydraulic and electrical components.
• Basic knowledge of OSHA and food safety regulations (preferred).
• Ability to stand for long periods, work in confined spaces, and lift heavy loads exceeding 50 pounds.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with solid observational and analytical abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting and collaborate with production and leadership staff.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in an industrial or food manufacturing maintenance environment.
• Familiarity with schematics and the ability to interpret electrical and mechanical diagrams.
• Comfort working with a variety of industrial equipment, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated systems.
• Experience performing emergency repairs across structural, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving equipment issues.
• Willingness to train on day shift with leadership and transition to a 12-hour schedule as required.

Work Environment

This role operates in a food manufacturing facility with industrial machinery, automated equipment, and production lines. You will work around mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems and may use lift trucks, platform lifts, and articulating boom lifts as part of daily tasks. The position involves standing for extended periods, working in confined spaces, and lifting loads exceeding 50 pounds. Shifts include a 1st shift (4:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) and a 3rd shift (9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.), with initial training on day shift under leadership guidance before moving to a 12-hour schedule. Safety and cleanliness are critical, and all work follows food safety and workplace safety standards.

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $80000.00/yr.
