Packaging Operator

The Packaging Operator is responsible for operating equipment to fill bulk adhesives/sealants into cartridges or other packaging vehicles and the palletization of that finished product for transfer to the Distribution Center. Adherence to Client's Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards and practices, and support of Client AC Manufacturing's Vision are maintained as a top priority. The Packaging Operator is expected to perform the required duties of this position in full compliance with departmental standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities:

The Packaging Operator position serves the role of executing production in the safest, most efficient manner possible for the manufacture of product that meets or exceeds our customers' expectations. In doing so, the Packaging Operator bears responsibility in the following areas:

• Compliance with Client's Vision and Values.
• Support of the AC Manufacturing Department Vision.
• Execution of duties in accordance with Client's SHE standards and practices including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Immediate correction of safety hazards.
• Stoppage of production due to concerns regarding safety, quality of product, equipment damage, etc.
• Execution of duties in accordance with departmental standard operating procedures including accurate and timely completion of required paperwork.
• Engagement and ownership of one's own work area and equipment. This includes the resultant quality of the product and administrative work being produced, the level of productive achievement and the housekeeping standards maintained.
• Execution of minor equipment troubleshooting/repair and regularly scheduled operator maintenance.
• Compliance with supervisory direction including special project work.
• Maintains a professional, team-player attitude, helping other Client employees and temporaries exceed expectations.
• Self-identification of training and development needs.
• Recognizance and communication of paperwork errors, process order related or otherwise.
• Understanding of the Continuous Improvement (CI) program and related tools.
• Support and integration of the CI program in areas of responsibility.
• Identification and communication of Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities.
• Implementation of opportunities with supervisor approval.
• Knowledgeable of and continually striving to achieve production rate and cost standards.

Grade I:

• Cleans vats as required and meets quality expectations.
• Reclaims cartridges as required.
• Reads and interprets filling process orders, understanding bulk material and packaging requirements, verifying the physical components prior to and during production. Records lot numbers and tracks packaging errors on filling work orders. This is all for 4-eye verifications to ensure the work orders are 100% accurate before filling.
• Prints bar code labels for units, case, etc. and ensures accurate application of items consistent with the work order instructions.
• Ensures accurate application of date codes on unit and case level.
• Operates filling equipment in accordance with production schedule.
• Performs operator maintenance as defined by the Maintenance Department.
• Identifies housekeeping infractions and takes actions to resolve.
• Enters production quantities in the ERP system.
• Operates in-line pigmenting processes.

Grade II:

• Performs Grade I duties as required.
• Takes independent action or directs resolution of housekeeping infractions in area of responsibility.
• Assists with cycle counts as requested by Inventory Controls Specialist.

Senior:

• Performs Grade II duties as required.
• Trains Grade I and II operators when required.
• Takes on multiple tasks and gains new experiences while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Identifies opportunities for schedule optimization and other ways to improve productivity.
• Takes independent action or directs resolution of housekeeping infractions in any area of Filling.
• Participates as lead person for CI projects.
• Participates in Safety Committee or other SHE initiatives.
• Provides temporary departmental direction in absence of supervision and shift lead.

Performance Measurements:

Metrics include, but are not limited to:

• SHE indicators
• Product quality level including customer returns
• Variances (Material Usage and Work Orders)
• Labor utilization and efficiency
• Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
• 5S audit scores
• Equipment uptime and condition
• Accuracy rate in performing required tasks
• Hourly performance review components
• Promotion Recommendation Matrix and score high enough to achieve a recommendation to the next grade level

Requirements:

Grade I:

• Completion of any relevant manufacturing training requirements.
• Completion of operations and safety training matrix and schedule.
• Certified in operation of PITs where applicable.
• Demonstrates a professional, team-player attitude toward work and co-workers.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills.
• Must be dependable and punctual.
• Must operate with a sense of urgency.
• Able to understand and perform basic math.
• Demonstrates a thorough understanding of process order documentation.
• Demonstrates understanding of date code formats, label creation system and application of labels on unit, case, drum, etc. level.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds on a repetitive basis.

Grade II:

• Competent to operate no less than two different filling machine types.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of holding tank/valve/transfer line/pump/filler relationships where applicable.
• And/or is fully qualified to operate all aspects of one or more high-complexity packaging lines with in-line pigmenting processes (including, but not limited to appropriate quality checks, raw material pot charging, basic machine operation, troubleshooting and minor maintenance, etc.).

Senior:

• Demonstrates significant equipment versatility.
• Demonstrates the ability to "see the bigger picture " and understand the impact to upstream and downstream operations, i.e., Mixing through Shipping.
• Demonstrates consistent model behavior relating to attendance, for example not receiving disciplinary warnings.

Education:

• High school graduate or GED.
