What does a Generation Specialist I or II do for us? The Generation Specialist Apprentice I or II position prepares future Generation Specialists to work independently and in a team environment with other Generation Specialists, performing preventative and corrective maintenance on the power facilities, buildings, hatcheries, roads, dams, waterways and other associated equipment for the safe and efficient operation of hydro-electric power plants. They ensure necessary generation by performing routine tasks and maintenance under normal and emergency conditions while maintaining FERC, NERC, WECC, OSHA, EPA, and other compliance regulations. A Generation Specialist Apprentice II also works to perform job duties in a rotating on-call schedule. They respond to emergency conditions of power plant and associated equipment during and outside regular business hours and takes immediate actions to rectify abnormal conditions. They identify requirements for emergency operations and develops emergency contingency plans. They also make routine decisions that affect large numbers of customers including the Northwest Grid and for equipment that have a large financial impact on IPC and its rate payers. They provide guidance and assistance for other operators and load serving operators. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Apprentice I Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: Currently employed as an IPC Pre-Apprentice Generation Specialist 1 year of demonstrated education/work experience in electrical, generation, or power plants An equivalent combination of education, experience, or military training Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position Apprentice II Education: High school diploma or GED Experience: Currently enrolled in IPC’s Generation Apprenticeship Training Program with 6 months hydro power plant experience An equivalent combination of education, experience, or military training Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job will require occasional, physically strenuous work for long periods of time and in adverse weather conditions. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb ladders and into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance and reach. Requires working from confined spaces and heights with the ability to operate and perform work from elevated positions up to 80 feet which may include work from ladders, elevated platforms, or open hatches/holes/cavities. Rarely lift shoulder-high and above items weighing up to 50 lbs.; rarely lift waist-high and knee-high items weighing up to 75 lbs. Occasionally use exertional force of up to 50 lbs. to push/pull items. Rarely carry with one hand items weighing up to 50 lbs. or items weighing up to 75 lbs. with two hands. Requires the ability to operate a vehicle. Must be able to grasp and hold simple hand tools and other materials and use fine motor skills to use a computer keyboard and handle small hand tools. Applicant must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age. This position may be subject to relocation to any of our eastern region power plants (Kuna, Hagerman, Twin Falls, American Falls). Apprentice I This training position can progress to an Apprentice II and Journeyman level; however, the individual will be required to bid all Generation Specialist (Operations) postings within the region until they successfully obtains a regular power plant position. Plant rotation and/or relocation is a condition of employment while in this training position. Apprentice II Must be able to complete on-call review in order to support formal on-call rotational support needs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Job requires the ability to respond to emergencies outside of and/or in excess of normal working hours. Job may require occasional travel with overnight stays. Job requires the employee to obtain and wear company provided and approved safety footwear and FR clothing. Company housing may be available, but occupancy is not required.
