Role Overview

The Technical Product Owner partners closely with engineering, architecture, QA, and client stakeholders to translate complex retirement‑domain requirements into scalable technical solutions. This role requires strong technical acumen, deep understanding of Retirement Partner processes, and the ability to drive clarity across data flows, system behavior, and integration points. The TPO will ensure the backlog is technically sound, well‑sequenced, and aligned to business and platform objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Backlog Ownership — Own and prioritize a technically detailed backlog, ensuring stories include system behaviors, integration needs, and data considerations.
• Technical Requirement Clarification — Partner with engineering and architecture to refine functional and non‑functional requirements, identify technical constraints, and validate feasibility.
• User Story & System Specification Development — Write clear user stories, acceptance criteria, data rules, API requirements, and system interaction flows for engineering and QA.
• Agile Technical Delivery Leadership — Lead technical backlog refinement, sprint planning, engineering alignment, demos, UAT coordination, and release readiness.
• Dependency & Integration Management — Identify upstream/downstream dependencies, manage cross‑team integration points, and ensure alignment across Retirement Partner systems.
• Technical Quality Validation — Validate delivered functionality against business rules, data accuracy, system performance, and integration expectations.

Domain & Technical Experience

• Retirement Products — Retirement Partner products, workflows, and system interactions.
• RMD Flows — RMD eligibility, calculations, and system‑driven distribution logic.
• Roth Conversions — Conversion rules, tax implications, and related system processing.
• Retirement Data Processes — Data flow, transformation, validation, and downstream impacts across Retirement Partner platforms.
• Technical Stakeholder Communication — Ability to independently discuss domain requirements with business stakeholders and translate them into technical specifications.

Required Skills & Tools

• 5+ years as a Product Owner or Product Manager in an Agile environment.
• Strong skills in technical requirement gathering , backlog prioritization, and cross‑functional communication.
• Experience working directly with engineering teams , architects, and QA to deliver complex technical features.
• Hands‑on experience with backlog management tools (JIRA, Confluence).
• Retirement/401(k), Investments, Trading, or Wealth Management domain experience strongly preferred.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Lucidchart or Visio for system and data flow modeling.
• Working knowledge of Figma for reviewing wireframes and collaborating with UX/design teams.
• Familiarity with APIs, data models, SQL, or system integration concepts.
