Position Location Fallon, Nevada
Job Overview Troubleshoot, repair, install and service medium and high voltage electrical systems and associated equipment; operate, inspect, and perform preventive maintenance on medium and high voltage overhead and underground distribution systems; prepare estimates, and plan and manage own projects within allotted budgets; and perform related work as required. Provide maintenance on High Voltage systems according to company standards providing the customer with high-quality experience. High Voltage Electrician is a full journey level classification performing skilled high voltage electrical work in accordance with the techniques of the trade, based on completion of a recognized apprenticeship or its equivalent. This classification is distinguished from other classifications which may perform limited elements of electrical work by its focus on voltage systems above 480 volts and equipment, and by the scope of work and level of skill required. This is an advanced semi-skilled position. Employees are required to complete all Tech 1, 2 and 3 requirements for a total of forty-eight (48) months of service and six hundred (600) successful hours of trade-related vocational instruction. Technicians who attain established levels of proficiency and qualifications are eligible to move to the next Tech level. Failure to complete the required hours for training/course work may be subject to discipline procedures.

Responsibilities Essential Job Duties:
- Climb power poles and repair or replace wire, cables, insulators, and connectors.
- Set poles, guy wires, and install transformers and regulators.
- Splice cables, repair and/or replace protection devices, keep records on various equipment.
- Perform tests on oil and insulation characteristics.
- Repair, maintain, and replace components, cables, and control devices.
- Replace and/or adjust trip units, determine size of conductor and protection size or setting and be able to modify factors for local conditions.
- Safely and proficiently operate both Bucket and Line Trucks.
- Troubleshoot and repair overhead and underground distribution systems, including transformers, circuit interrupters, reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, medium voltage switches, utility poles, and supporting hardware.
- Replace and install medium voltage overhead and underground electrical circuits and terminations.
- Fabricate and install a variety of components including but not limited to duct banks, cable runs, concrete pads for electrical equipment, risers, transformer banks, and low voltage electrical panels and metering.
- Operate various components on the medium and high voltage distribution electrical systems including isolation switches, interrupters, capacitor banks, transformers, overhead fused cutouts, and voltage regulators; isolates and clears sections of the system for maintenance, installation, and load shedding.
- Inspect overhead and underground distribution systems, tests, and document findings.
- Respond to emergency calls.
- Provide support for in-house capital and in-house projects with commissioning, testing, and inspecting finished work.
- Use personal protective gear such as hot sticks, respiratory protection, and places or erects clearance tags, barricades, warning signs and devices to protect others.
- Direct the work of unskilled and semi-skilled helpers assisting in projects, assuring that proper safety practices are followed.
- Operate a variety of testing, calibration and repair devices, tools and equipment including voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, insulation resistance testers, high potential test sets, circuit breaker testers, etc.
- Coordinate work with customers, project managers, other crafts, and inspectors; inspect job sites and review detailed plans, drawings, and oral directions to plan work.
- Prepare detailed estimates including labor and materials and prepare lists of materials.
- Assist other crafts as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of equipment and materials through self-study and training.
- Prepare and maintain a variety of records and paperwork regarding work performed.
- Adhere to the established safety policies.
- Assist in performing HAZMAT/safety inspections; maintenance of logs, records, and signing of fire extinguisher tags.
- Follow strict adherence to Lock-out tag-out procedures.
- Perform all other work-related duties as assigned.
- Completion of a Lineman School approved by the U.S. Department of Labor course or 4-year experience of proof with working on or with 1kv and above with signed Company Letterhead. and/or in-house training programs.
- Proficiency in mathematics used in electrical calculations including algebra.
- At least one year of high school algebra or one term of college algebra with a grade of C or better documented on either transcript.
- Proficiency in electrical theory and terminology.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, and testing of high and medium voltage overhead and underground systems and associated equipment.
- Knowledge of safety and safe working practices pertaining to high voltage electrical work, including ensuring clearances, and working on energized lines and equipment.
- Knowledge of Laws, Codes, and Regulations pertaining to high voltage electrical work, including NEC, IEEE, GO 95, and 128.
- Knowledge of using testing equipment and troubleshooting basic electrical problems and develop effective resolutions.
- Capable of performing job planning and basic estimating.
- Capable of performing repairs, fabrication, operations and maintenance of medium and high voltage electrical systems and associated equipment
- Experience using testing equipment and troubleshooting complex electrical problems and develop effective resolutions.
- Knowledge and capability of operating and maintaining tools and equipment of the trade.
- Capable of reading and interpreting plans, diagrams, drawings, instructions, and related technical materials.
- Demonstrate willingness to invest time in service training seminars and classes.
- Possess a valid Nevada State issued Real ID Driver's License or capable of obtaining Nevada State issued Real ID.
- Possess an OSHA 10 card or have the ability to get one within the first 90 days of employment.
- Possess a valid Nevada Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Possess a basic license to operate the Bucket, Line, and Lift Truck.
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Capable of following written and verbal directions.
- Capable of demonstrating commitment to developing customer service skills.
- Capable of demonstrating a mechanical aptitude.
- Must be able to comprehend, read, speak, and write proficiently in the English language.
- Capable of passing a pre-employment drug screen background check and random drug/alcohol screenings.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check to obtain and maintain a CAC Card and/or DBIDS credential as required by this contract.
- U.S. Citizenship.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to extreme temperature and inclement weather conditions.
- Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors, and elevated noise levels
- Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hand and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces, and working in various heights and confined spaces.
- Capable of performing shift work and overtime as needed.
- Ability to use safe lifting procedures; capable of lifting and/or moving up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to use full range of body motion: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, bending, reaching, and twisting.
- Perform responsibilities and heavy manual labor for extended periods of time (8-12 hours a day).
- Capable of safely working with heights and in confined working conditions from extension ladder or step ladder.
- Safely and securely ascend and descend on ladders, scaffolds, walkways and around equipment at various heights.
