Through disciplined and accretive investments, we have successfully tripled the size of our company since going public in December 2021 while maintaining a strong balance sheet.Crescent Energy is seeking an experienced Lead Revenue Accountant to join our Houston-based accounting organization, supporting upstream oil and gas operations across the Company’s core operating areas, including the Eagle Ford, Permian, and Uinta Basins. This position offers the opportunity to support a growing public company with a diverse portfolio of producing assets and a strong focus on cash flow, financial discipline, and shareholder returns. The Lead Revenue Accountant will lead key revenue accounting processes, ensuring the accurate and timely accounting of oil, natural gas, and NGL revenues. Responsibilities include settlement analysis, revenue recognition, distribution accounting, accruals, reconciliations, financial close activities, and contract-related accounting. The role will provide technical guidance to team members, help resolve complex accounting issues, and drive improvements in processes and internal controls. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of upstream oil and gas accounting experience, including direct experience in revenue accounting. They will bring strong technical and analytical skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to coordinate across Accounting, Production Accounting, Marketing, Land, and Operations. Primary ResponsibilitiesRevenue Accounting Leadership: Lead assigned oil, natural gas, and NGL revenue accounting processes, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and on time in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.Settlement and Distribution Accounting: Review and analyze oil purchaser statements, gas plant statements, residue gas settlements, NGL proceeds, pricing, deductions, transportation charges, royalties, and other ownership distributions. Investigate and resolve discrepancies affecting recorded revenues and related owner payments.Accounting Close and Reconciliations: Coordinate assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities. Prepare and review reconciliations of revenue-related accounts, production and sales volumes, inventories, and accounts receivable balances. Drive timely resolution of reconciling items.Accruals and Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation and analysis of revenue accruals, perform accrual-to-actual reviews, investigate variances, and provide explanations to support financial and management reporting.Technical Guidance and Issue Resolution: Serve as a resource for complex revenue accounting matters, provide guidance and mentoring to team members, and support consistent accounting practices across assigned assets.Contract and Commercial Support: Analyze purchaser contracts, processing agreements, transportation agreements, and marketing arrangements to support appropriate accounting treatment and accurate settlement calculations.Acquisitions and Divestitures: Support due diligence, transition planning, and the integration or disposition of assets, including revenue accounting setup, balance reconciliation, and resolution of transition-related issues.Internal Controls and Audit Support: Execute and support the review of revenue accounting controls, maintain clear supporting documentation, and respond to internal, external, and owner audit requests. Support Owner Relations inquiries as appropriate.Cross-Functional Collaboration and Process Improvement: Partner with Production Accounting, Marketing, Land, Division Order, and Operations to resolve issues, strengthen controls, improve data quality, and develop scalable revenue accounting processes.Education and Experience RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.Five or more years of upstream oil and gas accounting experience, including direct experience in oil, natural gas, and/or NGL revenue accounting.Strong understanding of revenue recognition, purchaser and gas plant statements, revenue settlements, pricing, deductions, transportation charges, distribution accounting, and revenue accrual processes.Experience coordinating close activities, resolving complex accounting issues, and preparing or reviewing account reconciliations and variance analyses.Demonstrated ability to take ownership of accounting processes and coordinate work across multiple stakeholders.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.Experience with oil and gas accounting systems and ERP platforms required; SAP experience preferred.Personal Attributes and Position RequirementsStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex accounting issues.Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Sound judgment and a proactive approach to identifying, resolving, and escalating issues.Self-directed, accountable, and results-oriented approach to work.Ability to build effective relationships across departments and organizational levels.Commitment to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and team development.Adaptability and willingness to learn in a growing organization.Crescent Energy is an equal opportunity employer.
