Specimen Technician

Job Title

Job Overview:

Pay Range: $17.96hr - $22.96hr

Requirement/Must Have:

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of computers.
• Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Ability to work nightshift, weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime as required.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to learn specimen types related to clinical tests.
• Ability to understand and follow compliance regulations related to test ordering.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster a positive environment.
• Ability to adapt to change and maintain flexibility in a production environment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department including A-station and presort.
• Handle pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Perform imaging, microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting of specimens.
• Ensure all functions are performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
• Work in a biohazard environment while practicing established safety habits.
• Adhere to core values, safety policies, and compliance procedures.
• Maintain a neat and clean work area.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

Nice To Have:

• Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
• Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience.
• Previous experience in a production environment.
