CT Technologist, Outpatient, PRN

Qualifications American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certificate in CT. License from the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Medical Radiologic Technologist. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by the first day of employment. Associate’s degree in Radiologic Sciences; graduation from an AMA‑approved school. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Job Duties Review physician orders for accuracy, diagnosis, and applicability to selected CT protocol. Screen patients for contrast allergies, contraindications, and appropriateness that would prohibit or modify the CT exam. Communicate with radiologists regarding stat/urgent findings. If modification of a CT protocol is necessary, consult with the radiologist to determine an appropriate CT exam, and document changes as appropriate in the electronic health record. Ensure that other resources such as nursing, anesthesia, and scheduling are in order. Interview patients (verify two patient identifiers), conduct patient screening and obtain medical history pertaining to the procedure’s clinical criteria. Explain the procedure and instruct patients on necessary requirements for diagnostic imaging. Answer questions, screen, and administer oral and IV contrast for relevant exams. Administer intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, while observing patients for adverse reactions. Assist the physician as needed in performing procedures. Ensure that images and information are properly documented with patient identification data and appropriate labeling. Utilize technical knowledge and skill to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age‑specific criteria. Complete exam charges and image documentation in a timely manner. Perform CT exams ensuring that patients meet radiation safety requirements and ALARA principles. Assist patients in dressing for exam and attend to patients’ physical well‑being while transporting to and from the exam room and positioning for exam. Instruct and communicate with patients and/or their families regarding the tests to be performed and evaluate the patient’s ability to tolerate. Perform quality control (QC) testing and report problems with CT system and workstations to the service engineer/biomed, with additional correspondence sent to the physicist and imaging leadership. Maintain various QA compliances including ACR requirements (daily, monthly, yearly QC) and archives. Participate in accreditation imaging requirements. Must be able to lift 40–50 lbs. Respond to inquiries, calls, and emails in a timely and professional manner. Utilize the organizational culture behaviors to include PACT and AIDET. Actively participate in codes and rapid responses. Communicate shift hand‑off regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams to the oncoming staff. Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads. Actively participate in providing orientation and training for new hires and students to ensure procedures are performed according to set standards. Function as part of an interdisciplinary team and collaborate in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines. Prioritize exams with scheduling to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat requests. Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, competencies, regulatory compliance, infection control, hospital education, new yearly metrics/department goals, patient satisfaction, and fiscally responsible practices regarding equipment, supplies scheduling, overtime, etc. Maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA) and ensure that all processes and procedures are maintained to secure and protect all workstations in all work areas. Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment.
