Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Molecular Cardiology Research Institute (Swain Lab)

The Molecular Cardiology Research Institute, Tufts Medical Center, Boston, invites post‑doctoral applications for a position in the laboratory of Dr. Lija Swain. The Swain laboratory focuses on identifying novel therapeutic approaches to improve myocardial recovery after acute myocardial infarction and heart failure by investigating metabolic and mitochondrial mechanisms underlying myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. The laboratory employs a variety of in vitro and in vivo techniques, including primary cardiomyocyte isolation, mitochondrial function assays, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, flow cytometry, and hemodynamic measurements. The lab uses both large animal swine and small animal mouse models of acute myocardial infarction to identify novel cardioprotective pathways. Responsibilities Conduct independent research projects within the healthcare field under the guidance and mentorship of senior researchers. Design and implement research studies, including experimental protocols, data collection methods, and statistical analysis plans. Analyze and interpret research data using appropriate statistical techniques and software. Prepare research findings for publication in peer‑reviewed journals and present at conferences and scientific meetings. Collaborate with other researchers and professionals to develop and refine research hypotheses, study designs, and methodologies. Stay updated with the latest advancements in healthcare research and apply relevant knowledge to ongoing projects. Assist in securing research funding by contributing to grant writing and research proposal development. Collaborate with healthcare professionals and institutions to collect clinical data and samples for research purposes. Contribute to the development and validation of new diagnostic tools, treatments, and interventions. Participate in the preparation of research reports, progress updates, and grant applications. Mentor and provide guidance to undergraduate and graduate students involved in research projects. Collaborate with industry partners to translate research findings into practical applications and technologies. Collaborate with regulatory bodies and ethics committees to ensure compliance with research protocols and regulations. Contribute to the dissemination of research findings to healthcare professionals, policymakers, and the general public through seminars, workshops, and publications. Maintain accurate and organized records of research data, protocols, and results, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality. Minimum Qualifications PhD in a relevant field of study or MD. Prior experience in healthcare research. Preferred Qualifications Record of publication in the relevant field of study. Physical Requirements Typical clinical and administrative office setting. Skills & Abilities Demonstrated experience in research design, data collection, statistical analysis, and scientific writing. Proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R) and data management tools. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience presenting research findings to diverse audiences. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
