Certified Medical Assistant - Dermatology

Job Summary Geisinger is hiring Certified Medical Assistants for outpatient settings. Eligible candidates receive a $3,000 sign‑on bonus paid over two years. Responsibilities Provides direct patient care and clinical support for physicians and other providers. Prepares patients, collects and reviews pertinent information, performs technical duties, documents in the electronic medical record and supports a safe environment. Offers administrative and clerical support: patient scheduling, filing reports, following up on documentation, phone calls, and billing inquiries. Obtains and documents patient details (reason for visit, weight, vital signs, medication review, etc.) using the electronic medical record. Sets up examination and treatment rooms between cases. Assists patients in preparing for visits, ensuring safety and privacy. Performs clinical tasks such as EKGs, wound dressings, minor surgical support, and ancillary examinations as directed by the provider. Prepares and administers medications according to policy and procedure (excluding intravenous medications). Completes patient tests and treatments per the provider’s order and protocol. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens, performs phlebotomy, and prepares associated paperwork. Addresses laboratory functions under laboratory guidance. Handles receptionist and clerical duties: matching and filing reports, consulting reports, and supporting clinic operations. Documents fully and accurately in patient records. Uses electronic medical record and scheduling systems. Facilitates timely appointments, completes referrals and pre‑authorizations. Collects co‑payments. Assists with orientation of new personnel. Documents ongoing patient communication, prioritizes communications to the provider, and responds to patient inquiries. Reinforces patient education as directed. Manages inventory of medical/surgical supplies and non‑controlled pharmaceuticals. May access and transport non‑controlled medications as necessary. Prepares and cleans instruments; follows sterilization and disinfection protocols. Cleans and sets up examination rooms, following infection prevention protocols. Observes equipment operation and reports maintenance needs. Active participation in patient safety and quality improvement programs. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Graduate of an accredited 1‑year medical assistant certificate or 2‑year diploma program preferred. Minimum 1 year related work experience preferred. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required. Certification by one of the following associations required: NHA, AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, AAH, or AMCA. Basic Life Support certification within 6 months of hire. Knowledge and competency in clinical duties, electronic medical records, and infection control.
