Position Summary

The Education Supply Lead works with the Supply Supervisor in ensuring educational programming runs smoothly by inventorying, organizing, maintaining, and distributing program supplies for both individual programs and shared supply systems within the Education division. This position collaborates across a variety of education programs including camps, floor engagement, virtual and in person outreach, theater programing, and education special events to contribute to Pacific Science Center’s mission to spark curiosity and fuel a passion for discovery, experimentation, and critical thinking. The Education Supply Lead also supports camp administration and leads a team of seasonal supply assistants during the summer. As a member of the Education team and employee of PacSci, the Supply Lead prioritizes Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) throughout their work as well as in colleague and community relationships.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Materials Management

• Processing supplies as they are delivered, following receiving protocols, and conducting supply distribution. This includes delivering to satellite locations as needed

• Conduct and monitor inventory of consumable and durable items used in education programing

• Maintain organized and effective supply systems for individual education departments and shared resources across the education divisions, including physical storage spaces and established inventory systems

• Perform regular maintenance and basic repairs on materials used for program delivery and daily operations (Van de Graaff generators, hand trucks/carts, portable exhibits, preserved specimens, technology, etc.)

• Coordinate and conduct the collection and preparation of donated materials for program use

• Coordinate and lead the proper sorting, storage, and disposal of specialty waste items generated by Education Programs, including but not limited to batteries, plastic film, medicine, hazardous materials including chemicals, fabrics, and other regulated or specialty waste streams

Program Operations and Development

• Work with Supply Supervisor and education program teams to anticipate supply needs and prepare materials to ensure programs are adequately equipped for regular and seasonal operations.

• Assist the Supply Supervisor with evaluating, documenting, and improving departmental and divisional supply systems, processes, and operational workflows

• Act in the capacity of Camp Administrator during camp sessions and trainings to support hiring, daily operations, set-up and tear-down, and assist with the planning and delivering of camp offerings and operations with a supply lens

• Support scheduling and leading a small seasonal team across multiple locations over the summer season (May through early September)

• Edit and evaluate Camp curriculums and activity ideas, prioritizing supply materials requested

• Provide technical expertise and support for the development of new educational programs

• Other duties as assigned

• Has sound situational awareness, prioritization, and creative problem-solving abilities

• Excellent attention to detail

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and file sharing programs such as Google Drive and/or Microsoft Teams

• Basic proficiency with hand and power tools

Ability to:

• Approach each interaction individually and without expectation or judgement of content knowledge level of interest, or background in science

• Self-start projects and maintenance while staying on project deadlines

• Maintain security and follow safety procedures

Qualifications

Required

• Demonstrated experience directing or coordinating the work of staff or volunteers

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize and respond to issues that arise throughout the day

• Valid WA driver's license and good driving record with at least five (5) years of driving history, including no moving violations in the past three (3) years

• First Aid/AED/CPR certification and WA State Food Handler's permit or willingness to obtain

Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree or in pursuit of, and/or equivalent experience

• Project management skills

• Experience working in an informal education setting and/or camps

• This position requires lifting (40 lbs. unassisted, program materials & supplies)

• This position requires some local area travel; personal vehicle is not required

• Because of the variety of camps, program outreach and locations, hours can vary daily, totaling in (and occasionally exceeding) 40 hours per week during weeks leading up to summer and during seasonal summer operations

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

The workplace environment will include some local area travel, outside and inside of schools, community centers, and in an office environment; a personal vehicle is not required. Physical demands of the position include moving supplies and objects up to 50 lbs, positioning oneself at various levels including below a table or desk, climbing stairs, crouching, crawling, and reaching for objects above ones head, maneuver or feel objects, tools, or controls; must be able to communicate verbally and in writing, utilizing radios, telephone, and virtual platforms to give and receive information, as well as engaging in public speaking. Position duties require moving throughout the campus and remaining stationary for extended periods of time onsite, as well as spending a significant amount of time in motion during program delivery at various sites. The noise level in the shared office space varies from low to moderate, sometimes utilizing a computer workstation. Running technology requires varying levels of visual acuity.

Position will also have exposure to dust, fumes, some loud noises and chemicals (including but not limited to liquid nitrogen, helium and hydrogen gas, dry ice, acids and bases, irritants and latex). Must be able to drive 15 passenger van and assuming responsibility of the safety and security of all passengers.

Compensation

Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.
