Safety Manager

Miniat Holdings LLC

Position Description:

The Safety Manager's prime function is in leading an active workplace safety culture through employee engagement, programs, and accountability. This role performs functions to execute all aspects of the safety programs, including but not limited to development, implementation, compliance, training, and reporting for South Chicago Packing LLC. This role will be measured through the reduction of incidents and through key leading indicators to facilitate a healthy environment's future successes.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that operations are executed in compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements
  • Builds capability of site resources to support implementation of EHS programs
  • Administers all aspects of the safety programs that empower employee participation in all areas of the organization
  • Develops safety and environmental risk assessments and facilitates activities to implements appropriate controls and measures and monitors adherence to controls
  • Conducts hazard analysis for any new product or process
  • Maintains hazard analysis and risk assessment records in accordance with all regulatory and customer requirements
  • Coordinates safety audit processes with direction from plant safety management in accordance with corporate policies
  • Prepares, maintains, and submits all required safety reports, both internally and externally
  • Supports management coordination with outside local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and company vendors associated with safety and environmental programs
  • Leads and drives the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans and track completion of corrective actions
  • Supports the plant contractor safety program by overseeing record management with the various plant departments and their corresponding contractors to ensure compliance with OSHA standards while meeting plant guidelines
  • Participates as a safety resource to ensure the PSM program is up to date and in compliance with current standards
  • Stays up to date with, actively research, and communicates worker safety rules and regulations to appropriate personnel
  • Owns and drives site safety performance metrics including but not limited to TRIR, DART, near misses, corrective actions, audit findings, training completion, and behavioral safety observations.
  • Partners with operations leadership to drive proactive safety and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Supports emergency response preparedness, evacuation planning, and incident response coordination.
  • Creates and/or updates internal safety and environmental policies as needed
  • Facilitates/supports safety committees and regular safety meetings company wide
  • Responsible for safety communication throughout the facility through various methods of transmittance
  • Trains, coaches, and counsels staff members, as necessary, on regulatory compliance and safety awareness
  • Oversees facility security processes, systems, and related operational needs.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Safety related field
  • Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for OSHA and PSM programs
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Effective procedural writing
  • Able to develop policies and demonstrate hazard recognition
  • Strong training and coaching skills
  • Proficient with various computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office
Preferred Requirements:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this role, the employee may be required to:
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, and move throughout production and warehouse environments
  • Occasionally lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds
  • Use hands and fingers to operate office equipment, computers, tablets, phones, and safety-related equipment
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with employees, management, contractors, and regulatory agencies
  • Visually observe workplace conditions, employee activities, machinery, and safety compliance throughout the facility
  • Travel throughout the facility, including production, maintenance, warehouse, and outdoor areas
Work Environment

This position operates in both office and manufacturing environments. While in production areas, the employee may be exposed to:
  • Moving mechanical parts and industrial equipment
  • Wet and humid conditions
  • Hot and cold temperatures
  • Loud noise levels requiring hearing protection
  • Chemicals, oils, cleaning agents, and other industrial materials
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements including hairnets, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety shoes, and other required equipment
The employee must be able to work in compliance with all company safety policies and food safety requirements.
