Patient Transport Team Lead- Radiology 40 Hours

Performs as a working leader in the Patient Transport Service department. Oversees the department's operation in the absence of a manager. Leads employees to exceed customer expectations ensuring patients are being transported in timely fashion. Makes informed decisions, within established guidelines, to serve customers and employees. Communicates and interacts daily with customers (Nursing, Unit Coordinators, Practice Administrators, patients, public, etc.). Transports patients, specimen, deceased patients and other related transport functions. Cleans transport equipment on a daily basis.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:
1. In conjunction with the manager/supervisor, schedules and assigns duties for the shift ensuring patients are transported in a timely manner and according to quality standards on the East and West Campus. Monitors daily activities of department work and reports any performance related issues (including conduct, quality, quantity, timeliness) to the supervisor/manager. (essential)

2. Collaborates with transporters to change break times to accommodate patient needs. Safely transports patients, specimens and other items to and from patient rooms and testing and other areas according to departmental protocols. Promptly notifying appropriate personnel of any delays that may affect operational workflow. Transports deceased patients to the morgue. (essential)

3. Ensures all employees are in proper uniform and have identification visible at all times. Reports progress and compliance of all staff and volunteers with department standards to the supervisors/manager. (essential)

4. Monitors and ensure adequate availability of wheelchairs in all lobbies. (essential)

5. Communicates with service response center/ public safety at night as needed. Recognizes and assumes responsibility for reporting patient care or safety concerns to appropriate staff. (essential)

6. In conjunction with the supervisor, conducts initial and follow up training of new employees, volunteers and staff who require additional skill development in accordance with department standards. Actively participates and provides support to Performance Improvement and Service Excellence Teams. (essential)

7. Directs or assumes responsibility for complex, difficult or unusual transport requests. (essential)

8. Monitors par levels and stocks various locations with equipment (wheelchairs, stretchers). Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of working area, stretchers, wheelchairs, IV poles and other items used in patient transportation. Conducts yearly scheduled equipment cleaning project. (essential)

9. Initiates a friendly but respectful relationship with patients and demonstrates responsiveness to patient's physical, psychological and social needs. Makes judgments with regards to patient care and operational flow based on established policies and guidelines. (essential)

Additional Responsibilities:
1. Performs miscellaneous duties such as collecting and transporting supplies in order to assist in the smooth operation of the department. Performs other work requiring equal skill, effort and responsibility as directed. May perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
1. Some High School required.
2. License Heartsaver Certificate (CPR) preferred.
3. 1-3 years related work experience required.
4. Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with physicians and other health care professionals.
5. Ability to follow standard procedures using own discretion and be able to comprehend the needs of patients and react appropriately and with sensitivity.
6. Demonstrated positive interpersonal communication skills. Ability to cooperate with all members of the health care team.
7. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.

7. Team Work: Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows. Results may impact the operations of one or more departments.

8. Customer Service: Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.

Age based Competencies: Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:
1. Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

2. Work is fairly routine from day to day. Employee follows a set pattern with any changes being communicated by supervisor.

3. Potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions

o Daily: Radiation, Exposure to dust,gas,fumes,steam,chemicals, Protective equipment required(Respirator,earplugs,mask,gloves,eyewear etc), Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or airborne pathogens, Potential exposure to infectious diseases and/or bloodborne pathogens.

4. Health Care Status: HCW 2: Regular, day-to-day contact; face-to-face only. Examples: Front desk receptionist, info desk receptionist, resource specialists, interpreters, transporters, etc.- Health Care Worker Status may vary by department

Sensory Requirements:
Close work (paperwork, visual examination), Monitor Use, Visual monotony, Visual clarity <3 feet, Hot/Cold, Sharp/Dull, Smell, Conversation, Monitoring Equipment, Telephone.

Physical Requirements:
Very Heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force continually. Employee is physically active in all elements of the job.
This job requires constant walking, Endurance-working up to 3-4 hours without a break,frequent standing, bending waist, twisting waist, Power Grasping using both hands, Reaching-above shoulder height, Reaching-below shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 100 pounds without assistance, Pull up and/or reposition patient weighing up to 250 pounds with assistance, Pushing items weighing up to 50 lbs, Push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds, with assistance.There may be occasional bending neck, twisting neck, Pushing/Pulling using both hands, Keyboard use.

Pay Range:
$18.74 - $25.22

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
