Job Description & Requirements Specialty: DOU - Direct Observation Unit Discipline: RN Start Date: ASAP Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) / Cardiac Observation Position Description The registered nurse in the Cardiac Observation Unit delivers a high level of care for patients undergoing catheterization procedures, both before and after their procedures. Responsibilities include evaluating assigned patients, planning, implementing, and documenting nursing care, as well as assisting physicians during examinations and procedures. The role involves performing various tests and administering medications within the scope of practice of a registered nurse. The Cardiac Observation Unit (COU) is where patients are prepared for procedures and recovered afterward. The team specializes in managing high-risk, high-acuity patients, focusing on achieving excellent clinical outcomes. Bedside procedures such as transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and cardioversions (CV) are conducted in this unit. Key Responsibilities Admit and assess patients. Prepare patients for catheterization procedures, including charting and IV starts. Prepare patients for cardioversions and transesophageal echocardiograms. Recover patients following catheterization while monitoring for conscious sedation effects. Sedate, circulate, and document bedside procedures such as cardioversions and TEE. Conduct discharge processes, including patient education and thorough documentation. Qualifications Current RN license in Arizona or a compact state. ACLS certification. BLS certification. Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with preference for background in PACU, ICU, telemetry, catheterization lab, or surgery center. Shift Information Shift schedules vary, comprising three 12-hour shifts per week. Call requirements may include weekends on a rotational basis, approximately every four to six weeks.
