Maintenance Lead - 2nd Shift

The Maintenance and Infrastructure Lead is a high-level technical leadership role responsible for the operational integrity, safety, and efficiency of all building systems within Township High School District 113. This position serves as the primary technical point of contact for the Building Manager and provides advanced troubleshooting, preventative maintenance oversight, and emergency infrastructure coordination. This is a hands-on role that helps drive preventative and responsive attention to the building needs. This is a one-year stipend role.

Qualifications

• Current District 113 Maintenance staff member.
• Valid driver's license
• Minimum of 3–5 years of successful experience in commercial facilities operations, mechanical repairs, or infrastructure maintenance.
• Demonstrated leadership ability with strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Advanced knowledge of commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems (BAS).
• Proven ability to coordinate complex projects, manage vendor relationships, and lead technical teams independently.
• Certifications (Required): Must hold or be willing to obtain within 6 months at least one journey-level certification (e.g., HVAC EPA Universal, Electrical, or Plumbing license).
• Flexibility to assist with changing priorities, urgent repairs, or special projects as needed.
• Consistent professionalism, reliability, and commitment to customer service.

Essential Functions

• Model and reinforce the work expectations of all Buildings & Grounds staff by demonstrating punctuality, precise timekeeping, timely completion of work orders, regular communication with the Building Manager, maintenance of clean and safe work environments, professionalism and respect toward others, responsible use of district resources, and adherence to all district policies and procedures.
• Promptly communicate with the Building Manager regarding staff performance concerns, supply needs, equipment concerns, or facility conditions requiring attention.
• Support the onboarding and training of new or current employees by demonstrating proper procedures, reinforcing expectations, and modeling best practices.
• Serves as the primary operational lead for the District-wide PM Program, ensuring all critical mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems are serviced to manufacturer standards to prevent system failure.
• Monitors the performance and lifecycle of high-value district assets (boilers, chillers, generators), identifying necessary repairs or capital replacements to maximize equipment longevity.
• Acts as the designated first responder for after-hours building emergencies, coordinating immediate remediation for HVAC failures, pipe bursts, or fire alarm events to ensure campus continuity.
• Responsible for maintaining all of the school's auditable records for the State of Illinois, such as Life Safety inspections, boiler certifications, and fire suppression testing.
• Prioritizes and assigns technical work orders through the district's management system, maintaining high "First-Time Fix" rates and reducing the facilities backlog.
• Orchestrates technical safety training and onboarding for maintenance staff, modeling advanced repair techniques and enforcing all OSHA-compliant protocols such as, Lockout/Tagout.
• Serves as the daily point of contact for external contractors, ensuring all specialized repairs are completed to district specifications and safety codes.
• Perform all Maintenance role responsibilities.

Language Skills

Communicates clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community. Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups. Apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Mathematical and Technical Skills

Calculate figures, estimates, proportions, percentages, and cost projections. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Strong technology skills, including standard Microsoft Office suite / Google Workspace, financial management, and data analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of verbal and written instructions and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.

Contacts Outside Your Own Department:

Build positive relationships with constituents of the District 113 community that includes, team members, teachers, school staff, administrative team, Board of Education, guardians, students, and private providers.

Working Conditions:

• In the work environment, this role is regularly exposed to office environmental conditions and also may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with regular exposure to loud classrooms, hallways, cafeterias or sports venues.
• The employee is regularly required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and staff in addition to meeting multiple demands from several people.
• The employee may be asked to work irregular or extended work hours, which may include evenings or weekends.
• Performs other related duties as may be necessary and assigned by the Building Manager and/or School Principal.
• May be required to work during school holidays, weekends, days, evenings and overtime during inclement weather or in emergency situations as directed by the Building Manager

As a part of the District workforce, this role is responsible for being aware of, modeling and contributing to the maintenance and implementation of all District safety policies and procedures. The role is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
