Overview

A client of ours is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support month-end close, financial reporting, and key accounting functions. This role will focus on merchant accounting, payroll and benefits, deferred revenue, and inventory accounting, with opportunities to improve processes and strengthen internal controls as the business evolves following a recent acquisition.

Responsibilities

• Manage merchant accounting, including reimbursement calculations, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Handle accounting for payroll, employee benefits, warranty liabilities, and deferred revenue, including accruals, supporting schedules, and reconciliations.
• Prepare inventory accounting entries related to excess and obsolete inventory, capitalized labor, and overhead.
• Complete month-end journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating discrepancies and supporting a timely close.
• Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation, responding to auditor inquiries as needed.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows through automation, system enhancements, and process improvements.
• Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation.
• Support additional accounting projects and reporting needs as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including hands-on month-end close responsibilities.
• Experience with public companies or within a strong internal control environment preferred.
• Proficiency in NetSuite or a similar ERP system and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, accruals, amortization, and revenue and cost recognition.
• Experience preparing journal entries, maintaining supporting schedules, and reconciling balance sheet accounts.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
• A proactive mindset with an interest in improving accounting processes and controls.
