Associate Director, Academic Success & Bar Programs Posting #: 5603 Position Status: Full-time regular Location: San Diego Position Type: Administrator, School of Law Job Summary The Associate Director, Academic Success & Bar Programs (ASBP) reports directly to the Director of ASBP. The Associate Director provides high‑level support to the Director in managing, executing, and analyzing all academic success and bar preparation programs. The Associate Director is also responsible for teaching ASBP courses, overseeing confidential data for ASBP and other student information databases, and fostering collaboration with JD students, faculty, administrators, and university offices. Duties and Responsibilities Provide one‑on‑one academic counseling and advising to JD students, including meeting with students individually via appointments and walk‑ins to increase academic study and test‑taking skills. Offer academic skills tutoring for students on the Academic Improvement Plan (AIP) and refer them to relevant resources. Meet with recent graduates individually during bar exam cycles to enhance bar‑exam skills. Advise students on course selection and maximization of law‑school experience, especially during registration season. Provide personal and non‑academic counseling as needed and refer students to other counseling resources. Teach courses designed to increase bar‑exam and legal analysis skills, scheduled in fall, spring, and summer semesters. Assist the Director in developing and managing academic success programs for first‑year students and beyond, including study groups, workshops, and outreach programs. Support the administration of Academic Improvement Plans, probation, and general ASBP administration. Track event budgets, respond promptly to emails and phone calls, and attend meetings within the department, law school, and university. Stay updated on latest trends and practices in bar preparation, academic support, and legal education, and attend ASBP conferences. Participate in orientation and commencement events, and support Law Student Affairs and ASBP programming and events. Maintain the web presence of ASBP programs and develop materials and communications content in support of programming. Perform other duties or tasks as assigned. Degree Verification Requirement Persons offered employment will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification. Job Requirements Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school is required. Admission to California or any state bar is required. Minimum 1–2 years of closely related experience is required.
