Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 6 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license required Must-Have: Nursing care, medication administration, patient assessment, supervisory techniques, emergency procedures Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing Licensed Independent Provider’s orders, dispensing and administering medications, and assisting in examinations and treatment of patients. Applies nursing and supervisory techniques required in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents. Performs all technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure. Utilizes appropriate nursing skills in the area and treatment of inmates/residents. Attends sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents, prepares a list for examination, and prepares the examining room and equipment. Operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures. Calls Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders, and other emergencies. Examines and assesses new inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries or those who become ill or injured. Refers inmates/residents to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities as required by their condition. Performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies Licensed Independent Provider for treatment orders. Assists in coordinating professional medical services and addresses their needs. Monitors inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate. Provides guidance, supervises, and monitors nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. Maintains a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies. Utilizes established corporate, facility, and correctional policies and procedures in making decisions while exercising independent judgment. Regularly evaluates the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of services. Maintains security and confidentiality of all medical records. Assists in reviewing medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses. Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary, as directed or required. Complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances. Observes and records inmate/resident behavior. Inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband; securely stores or safely disposes of supplies and equipment. Provides health counseling and education on an individual or group basis, as required. Assists in preparing and maintaining a variety of standard narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports, and logs. Reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents. Reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits and attends court hearings when necessary. Facilitates, where applicable, accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved medical services. Prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures. Takes appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
