Fiber TechnicianA Fiber Technician should possess extensive knowledge of fiber optic networks with the skillset and ability to troubleshoot and repair circuits within various telecommunications systems.Duties and Responsibilities:Able to efficiently take a project from initial start to final closeouts with minimal to no supervisionKeep projects on schedule by planning your work and working your plan.Mentor less experience teammates on crewManage and maintain company issued vehicles and equipment including fusion machines, OTDR, Power meters, light sources, trucks and trailers, etcRemain compliant and up-to-date with DOT regulations, licensing, technician fiber optic certifications, and all equipment calibration requirementsAbility to read, interpret, input, and analyze information with a high degree of accuracy and completenessPerform unsupervised fiber optic testing (troubleshooting), reading and understanding OTDR & Power meter reportsOperate technical equipment, including but not limited to computer, OTDR and fusion splicing and testing equipment for both single and ribbon fiberKnowledge of and understanding RUS units to be able to input production into company proprietary softwareDocument work performed; track and communicate daily production and materials usedBe included in an emergency on-call restoration scheduleSafety training as required by positionPaperwork filing and maintenance as neededEssential Education and Qualifications:Valid Driver's License and DOT health card5+ years experienceAbility to work independently or in group settingsIn depth knowledge of prepping, splicing, terminating, and testing fiber optic components and cable plants. Knowledge of TIA/EIA, NEC codes and standards, and FOT certified a plus.Excellent communication and organizational skills, detail orientedExtensive knowledge of telecommunications network infrastructure, with proven skillset prepping/building various splice cases, fiber panels, proficiency with fiber testing, and processing close out packages based on customer specific requirementsHandling/opening various types of fiber cable, routing fibers into splice trays, panels, and/or cabinetsKnowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to related construction processesProficient in the use of hand tools and equipment utilized in splicing fiberAbility to operate company vehicles and properly tow/back-up trailersWillingness to travelAbility to use electronics and various software to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookExperience operating and performing work in a bucket truck, man-lift is a plusPhysical Demands:Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, stoop, crawl, etc.Must be able to lift up to 50 lbsMust be able to work at heights and in confined spacesAble to work in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat)Must be able to identify colorThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
