Nuclear Hardness and Survivability Engineering SME (Level V) Lockheed Martin – Huntsville, AL Position Summary Lead the application of hardening techniques for the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) missile, providing technical authority on Nuclear Hardness and Survivability. Oversee modeling, testing, and verification to ensure military‑grade missile and spacecraft designs withstand natural and man‑made radiation environments. Responsibilities Serve as technical authority on Nuclear Hardness and Survivability techniques. Guide and mentor junior survivability engineers on complex tasks. Act as the primary technical advisor for program leadership and customers. Ensure missile and space vehicle designs perform during and after exposure to radiation from component to system level. Use modeling techniques in a classified environment for radiation transport calculations, assess persistent man‑made environments, determine sensor performance, and evaluate overall system survivability. Conduct technical planning, specification derivation, test planning, implementation, documentation, verification, and validation to support system needs. Collaborate with LM Space Enterprise Survivability Engineering group and other internal experts, mentoring rising talent across NGI and Space. Qualifications Minimum 14+ years of professional experience. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Authority in Natural Space, Nuclear/Man‑made Radiation Environments, or design hardness. Experience with software tools for modeling natural and man‑made radiation environments. Advanced degree in a related subject area is an asset. Security Clearance Requirements U.S. Citizen requirement. Minimum Interim Secret clearance prior to employment. Must obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance for long‑term employment on this program. Desired Skills 14+ years experience in Natural Space and Nuclear/Man‑made Radiation Environments, or design hardness. Rad Hard Space semiconductor or system hardening experience. Specialist in radiation software tools (e.g., NOVICE, FASTRAD, Srim/Trim, Geant4, Creme96, Creme‑mc, Shieldose, Spenvis, Omere, Ap8, Ap9/Ae9). Significant experience with piece‑part radiation testing, performance, and reliability. Recognized authority in systems thinking techniques with demonstrated ability to apply and teach them. Ability to lead multi‑functional teams and communicate across domains. Active DoD Secret clearance is preferred. Pay & Benefits Annual Base Salary Range (California, New York, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington, DC): $122,900 – $216,660. Salary for other states will be adjusted based on final work location.
