Mobile Diesel & Trailer Mechanic II - 2nd shift

Mobile Diesel Technician Level II This 2nd shift position (2 PM – 12 AM; week‑end coverage, Friday through Monday) is responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The technician will perform advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, continuously learning additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques. The candidate must comply with all company policies and achieve high‑level performance metrics. Responsibilities Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials. Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters, alternators, air‑conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials. Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation. Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment. Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation. Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections. Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, and satisfy expectations. Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work according to company standards, upload photos of work performed and parts used on Repair Orders (RO) using an iOS device and the TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely manner. Work independently, manage daily schedule, and maintain a high level of productivity while meeting Standard Repair Times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs. Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates and retrieve purchase order numbers. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT. Maintain company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre‑ and post‑trip inspections. Requirements High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of experience in a related field. Alternate qualifications include a higher degree or certification beyond a high‑school diploma with 5 years of experience. Possess and supply the hand tools necessary for the job duties. Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months. Meet DOT and FMCSA regulations, including successful completion of a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical. Hold a current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining; otherwise, a DOT physical is required. Be at least 21 years of age to comply with interstate operating authority regulations. Have a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Class C driver’s license is required. Compensation The hourly pay rate for this position ranges from $26.73 to $40.10 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location, experience, and performance. Additional compensation may include commission, annual or monthly incentives, and/or an incentive program.
