About the Role

The Company is seeking a Head of Software to take ownership of the end-to-end software strategy for a global ground network. This pivotal role involves leading the team in building and scaling the software layer that ensures the reliability, observability, and performance of systems as the company expands its infrastructure footprint. The successful candidate will be responsible for the architecture and technical direction of the core software stack, including backend systems, cloud infrastructure, networking, and customer-facing platforms. A key aspect of the position is to drive the development and optimization of data pipelines and networking systems for real-time data transfer, and to ensure operational excellence across all systems. The Head of Software will also be instrumental in designing and implementing cloud and edge compute infrastructure, and will work closely with hardware and operations teams to achieve seamless integration between physical systems and software. Applicants for the Head of Software position at the company should have 7-12+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in backend systems and cloud infrastructure. Proficiency in C/C++ and/or Rust, or experience with performance-critical systems, is required. The role demands a technical generalist who can operate across infrastructure, backend, and system design, and who has a proven track record of leading and managing engineering teams. Experience in high-growth or startup environments, particularly during rapid scaling phases, is preferred. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on leadership approach, be adept at problem-solving, and have a background in building highly reliable, production-grade systems with a focus on uptime, performance, and observability.
