RN Radiation Oncology

Job Summary:

The Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care in collaboration with the Radiation Oncology Team, ensuring continuity and quality patient care. The RN assesses and addresses actual or potential patient problems related to cancer diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up, emphasizing teaching, counseling, and support to patients and families. This role involves patient evaluation alongside the Radiation Oncologist and serves as a liaison among oncology departments, physicians, and support services, facilitating referrals for recovery, rehabilitation, hospice, and nutritional needs. Responsibilities:

• Assess patients undergoing radiation oncology treatment and provide appropriate nursing interventions.
• Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
• Provide teaching, counseling, and emotional support to patients and their families regarding diagnosis and treatment.
• Act as a liaison between Radiation Oncology, other hospitals, departments, physician groups, and counseling/support organizations.
• Facilitate referrals for alternative resources including recovery services, rehabilitation, nursing home care, hospice, and nutrition.
• Assist in patient evaluation and examination during radiation oncology visits.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of oncology nursing practices, protocols, and evidence-based care.
• Document patient care and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Colorado in good standing.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in Radiation Oncology nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to adapt and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Knowledge of oncology, immunology, pharmacology, and cultural sensitivity in patient care.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience coordinating oncology patient care with interdisciplinary staff.
• Familiarity with chronic illness and comorbidity management.
• Highly organized and flexible in managing multiple tasks.

Special Considerations:

• Work involves providing care to patients across various age groups, developmental stages, and cultural backgrounds.
• Must maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural sensitivity in oncology care.
• Position requires collaboration with multiple healthcare providers and external support organizations.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts per week, Monday through Friday.
• Day shift schedule focused on clinic hours.
