Nursing Coordinator (Safety) - Various Programs Job Code #: JC-521448 Position #: 455-010-8101-001 Working Title: Nursing Coordinator (Safety) - Various Programs Classification: Nursing Coordinator (Safety) Salary Range: $11,074.00 - $13,867.00 T # of Positions: 1 Work Location: San Luis Obispo County Telework: Hybrid Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Facility: DSH - Atascadero Job Description and Duties The Nursing Coordinator (Safety) will be directed by the Program Director at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: Ensures supervision across all shifts and units. Reviews unit and program use of registry and overtime and staffing patterns; audits and reports time usage for pattern and trend analysis, including LOC staffing balance. Works with unit supervisors to provide recommendations for improvement and initiate corrective actions as needed. Consults with, advises, and directs unit supervisors in the delivery of treatment and ensures nursing services provide the proper standards of care with quality service. Ensures that restraint and seclusion policies are followed. Ensures nondiscriminatory employment practices and nondiscriminatory delivery of services to patients. Establishes hiring objectives to include appropriate employees according to patient/program needs; references Hospital and Department EEO policy. Assures nondiscriminatory opportunity for employment and promotions. Applies and demonstrates knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and correct methods in therapeutic strategies and interventions (TSI), including patient containment, heavy-lifting, applying restraints, and responding to emergencies. Monitors completion of assignments given to USs and HSS and takes corrective action for incomplete assignments. Is familiar with applicable nursing service employee labor contracts. Monitors supervisory interventions to prevent potential labor contract violations. Meets with union representatives and clarifies questionable work contract violations with Personnel Officer. Ensures compliance with mandatory training standards; effectively communicates to all unit employees that sexual harassment and behaviors that may lead to harassment are unacceptable. Maintains appropriate monitoring and intervention relative to relationship security. Ensures timely completion of meaningful performance appraisals; responds to staff concerns regarding health and safety issues directly or through the area-specific Health Safety and Violence Prevention Committee. Maintains program-tracking system to ensure that all staff are current in professional licensure.
