Working Title: Workforce Adjunct – Electrical Instructor Role Title: Role Code FLSA Exempt Pay Band UG Position Number 280A9999 Agency: Northern VA Community College Division NV280-VP Workforce Development Work Location: Prince William - 153 Hiring Range: The rate per instructional hour will be commensurate with education and relevant or teaching experience Job Category: Faculty Full Time or Part Time (Part Time) Telework: Telework options are subject to change based on business needs Schedule: Varies; Classes will mostly be evenings and weekends General Description Workforce Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in the designated discipline/field of study to students from a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. Teaching may include a variety of formats: face‑to‑face, remote and online. The teaching load is based on student enrollment and staffing needs. The adjunct faculty contract contains no expectation or guarantees of continued employment. Duties and Tasks Provide hands‑on, guided, differentiated instructions to students enrolled in the courses, as specified in the schedule and course contract. Prepare course materials and lesson plans. Conduct efficient and effective classroom management. Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the institution, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria. Use the institution’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials and to communicate with students, in a timely manner. Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real‑world applications of concepts covered. Maintain records of enrollment, attendance, assessments and grades, and submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the department. Maintain a hazard‑free environment and practice safety in lab(s) or classroom. Adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college and departmental policies, procedures, and regulations. As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations. KSAs / Required Qualifications National Electrical Code (NEC) – Working knowledge of NEC standards, code compliance, and local electrical regulations related to installation, grounding, and protection. Blueprints and Schematics – Ability to read, interpret, and explain electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and one‑line schematics. Safety Procedures and Compliance – Understanding of OSHA 10/30 safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements specific to electrical environments. Hands‑On Demonstration – Skill in demonstrating electrical techniques safely, including wiring, conduit bending, and circuit assembly. Instructional Delivery – Ability to teach hands‑on technical content clearly and effectively to diverse learners. Troubleshooting and Diagnostics – Strong problem‑solving skills for identifying and correcting mechanical and electrical faults. Curriculum Integration – Skill in aligning instructional content with industry standards and certification requirements. Electrical Components and Systems – In‑depth familiarity with conductors, transformers, motors, panels, breakers, and control systems. Represent NOVA Professionally – Ability to uphold institutional standards and positively represent NOVA Workforce in all instructional and industry settings. Minimum Work Experience Prior teaching or training experience in the subject field/industry or demonstrate evidence of teaching potential. Practical working experience in the subject field/industry and related industries. Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise applicable to the course being taught. Familiarity with subject area certification processes, guidelines, and procedures. Working knowledge of computer applications and the ability to use computers for providing class presentation. Additional Considerations Practical working experience in the subject field/industry and related. Experience teaching “boot camp” style training course. Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive working and learning environment. Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency. Experience working with adult learners.
