Emergency Medical Technician

Under the supervision of the Manager, Emergency Services and the Clinical Coordinator/Chief paramedic, the L+M Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing safe ambulance transportation and patient care for patients. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran

Responsibilities

• Establishes a professional rapport with patients and staff.
• Collaborates with other pre-hospital team members to assure that appropriate level of treatment is performed.
• Transfers patients to the emergency department of a hospital or other healthcare facility.
• Responds to 911 calls for emergency medical assistance.
• Reports their observations and treatment to physicians, nurses, or other healthcare facility staff.
• Documents medical care given to patients.
• Acts as a role model in area of expertise and professional practice by being self-directed, self-motivated, maintaining expertise and promoting the emergency medical services system.
• Facilitates and models development of critical thinking, problem solving and communications skills among the students.
• Maintains current knowledge of relevant issues, trends, and practices in the area of emergency medical services.
• Promotes professional self-development.
• Assesses a patients condition and determines a course of treatment.
• Provides first-aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured patients.
• Supports leadership in ensuring that excellent customer service standards are met.
• Reinforces behaviors consistent with customer service standards.
• Transports patients safely in an ambulance.
• Operates an emergency vehicle in a safe manner consistent with YNHHS policies.
• Adheres to all applicable state EMS protocols, sponsor hospital guidelines, and YNHHS policies and procedures.
• Constructs a personal development plan based on self-evaluation and peer review.
• Inventory, replace, and clean supplies and equipment after use.
• Assists in the care and maintenance of equipment.

Qualifications

Education

EMS certification/licensure at the EMT level, other health care licensure/certification, or other subject matter expertise in the area of healthcare, public safety, EMS, or education is preferred.

Experience

Pre-hospital experience, other healthcare experience, or other needed area of expertise experience strongly encouraged. Must maintain certification as a CT and RI EMT.

Licensure

State of CT EMT Certification required, EMS certification/licensure at or above the EMT level in RI is preferred at hire or must be obtained in the first 6 month of employment, other health care licensure/certification desirable, Current AHA BCLS is required.
