RESEARCH SPECIALIST I, School of Medicine, Neurology

Research Specialist-CTE Center/Neurology Responsibilities Coordinate brain tissue requests Perform brain dissections and collect brain samples Cut and stain brain tissue for immunohistochemical analyses Assist with incoming/outgoing material transfer requests Oversee organizational project to process large volume of incoming cases Work with data-core team to create specimen-tracking databases Train and manage interns, and provide training and oversight to research assistants who assist with brain tissue dissections and processing Collaborate with Brain Bank team and assist with manuscript preparation Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience or a related field Minimum 1‑3 years of related experience Proficiency with MS Office applications, database systems and PubMed Excellent oral and written English communication skills Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all personal/health sensitive information Occasional travel between Boston University School of Medicine and VA Healthcare Systems (Jamaica Plain and Bedford); access to transportation recommended Occasional rotating weekend on‑call/beeper coverage as needed Handling human biological specimens; requires relevant biosafety training and vaccination compliance per institutional policy Location: VA Healthcare System Boston, 150 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130 We are an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, natural or protective hairstyle, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information, military service, pregnancy or pregnancy‑related condition, or because of marital, parental, or veteran status.
