About the Role
- Our client, an established public accounting firm, is hiring a Tax Manager for its High Net Worth practice in New York.
- You will lead complex tax engagements for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, and related entities.
- The role covers compliance, review, planning, and advisory work, plus staff supervision and client development.
What You Will Do
- Oversee tax engagements from planning through completion, meeting deadlines and client expectations.
- Build a strong understanding of each client's business, finances, and tax goals.
- Prepare, review, and manage tax returns, extensions, and tax planning calculations.
- Work across a range of entity types, including:
- High-net-worth individuals
- Trusts and estates
- C-Corporations and S-Corporations
- Partnerships
- Multi-state entities
- Prepare and review complex tax planning projections for individuals and businesses.
- Review complex U.S., multi-state, and international income tax returns.
- Conduct tax research and write technical memos on findings.
- Represent clients with the IRS and state tax agencies on audits, inquiries, and notices.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop tax staff, and delegate work based on skills and workload.
- Build strong relationships with existing clients and work closely with Partners.
- Support business development by meeting prospects, preparing fee quotes and proposals, and identifying new tax and advisory opportunities.
- Help with staff training, onboarding, and special consulting projects.
What You Bring
- CPA or EA required.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 5–7+ years of public accounting experience.
- Strong background in individual, corporate, and partnership taxation.
- Experience working with high-net-worth individuals and families.
- Experience across tax compliance, review, planning, and advisory work.
- Experience supervising and mentoring tax professionals.
- Strong client-management and communication skills.
- Sharp analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and meet strict deadlines.
Nice to Have
- Trust, estate, and gift tax experience.
- Complex tax planning and projections.
- Multi-state tax experience.
- Experience with closely held businesses and related entities.
- Business development and client relationship experience.
- Based in New York or New Jersey.
