The salary range for this job posting is $42,878.00 - $68,604.00 annually + bonus + benefits The above represents the salary range for this job requisition. Ultimately, in determining your pay, we'll consider your location, education, experience, and other job-related factors. There will be a comprehensive training program beginning in June 2024, including foundational teaching and on the job training, Some training will take place in the Charleston, WV office. Ideal candidates will reside within one of the listed New England states as noted on this opening or in the state of Virginia. The role will report to the Assistant Vice President, Safety & Loss Control. JOB OBJECTIVE: The Safety and Loss Control Trainee works with oversight from Safety and Loss Control professionals and appropriate manager. The position will receive training and mentoring to become familiar with commercial lines safety operations. The Trainee works with smaller accounts with less complex safety and loss control issues, gradually moving to more complex accounts as experience warrants. The Trainee will have exposure to all aspects of loss control regarding all property and casualty coverages written by Encova Insurance: - General and Products Liability

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Successfully complete assigned commercial lines trainee program modules. 2. Consults with policyholders to improve the occupational safety programs and performance leading to a safer and healthier workplace. 3. Maintains a positive working relationship with employers and employees. 4. Provides underwriters with risk assessment information concerning the level of safety of employers. 5. Conducts loss analysis and research prior to on-site occupational safety and loss prevention surveys to assess the policyholder's safety efforts and to detect occupational safety hazards to employees. 6. Prepares and submits reports of findings to management and makes recommendations to management. 7. Evaluates policyholder safety programs and work sites for hazardous conditions. 8. Researches literature, standards, laws, and rules to provide policyholders with effective solutions. 9. Develops cost effective methods to correct hazardous conditions. 10. Analyzes loss information to determine accident trends and provide policyholders with effective solutions. 11. For new accounts, provides underwriting with accurate and timely reports on the hazards and the effectiveness of controls and the willingness of the policyholder to comply with recommendations to control hazards. 12. Keeps underwriting apprised of any changes in hazards or exposures through copies of reports to policyholders and special reports to underwriting. 13. Responds to requests from policyholders, underwriters, and other agencies in a timely fashion regarding safety issues. 14. Communicates ideas and issues with policyholder to reach successful agreement on solutions and recommendations, using innovation, creativity, and compromise. OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in safety, industrial hygiene, or risk management required.
- Master's degree in Safety or Industrial Hygiene from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Ability to learn and utilize core elements of occupational safety and industrial hygiene, including but not limited to the following:
- Knowledge of effective safety and loss control program management.
- Knowledge of risk management as it relates to safety and industrial hygiene as an overall function of business in planning, leading, and directing its operations.
- Knowledge of workers' compensation laws, policies and rules, as well as understanding of the principles of insurance and risk management.
- Basic understanding of guaranteed cost, deductibles, retrospective rating plans and the impact of accident prevention on each plan.
- Knowledge of basic business financial principles to analyze cost effectiveness and return on investment of recommended solutions to hazards and exposures.
- Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, DOT and NFPA standards.
- Ability to make sound judgments and work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employers, policyholders, regulatory agencies, and labor communities.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to compile, analyze and report on findings.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Must hold a valid driver's license.
