Position Overview Paralegal Location: Santa Fe, NM New Mexico Legal Aid (NMLA) provides civil legal services to low-income New Mexicans to promote family and economic stability, helping clients access food, shelter, security, and preserve their cultural heritages. NMLA has locations throughout the state, including Santa Ana Pueblo, Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, Gallup, Roswell, Silver City, and Taos. The Paralegal will provide litigation and administrative support to attorneys serving low‑income clients across a range of civil legal matters such as housing, domestic violence, consumer protection, family law, and public benefits. The role supports client services by assisting with case development, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring cases move forward efficiently. Regular client interaction, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a client‑centered service commitment are required. This position is located in our Santa Fe office, reports to the Northern Managing Attorney, and works closely with the Litigation Director. Responsibilities Conduct client intakes and assist with gathering relevant case information. Provide general support to attorneys in preparation for hearings and court proceedings. Draft legal documents, correspondence, and other written materials. Maintain and organize case files, ensuring accurate and timely documentation. Track deadlines, court dates, and case activities using case management systems. Communicate effectively and respectfully with clients, including those in crisis or under stress. Coordinate referrals to community resources and partner organizations as appropriate. Assist with data collection and reporting requirements. Support outreach efforts and community education activities. Collaborate with attorneys, staff, and external partners across multiple offices. Attend court proceedings with clients and/or attorneys as needed. Other duties as assigned. Hybrid work schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote). 37.5‑hour work week. 403(b) Retirement Plan. Salary: $49,077.55 – $70,232.52 DOE. Applicants will be subject to a background check.
