Job Opportunity: Regional Medical Director of Perinatal Care/Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM)

Our organization is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Regional Medical Director of Perinatal Care/Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) . This role will be based at our facilities in Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan.

Under the guidance of the Department Chair, the selected Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist will spearhead our vibrant teams focused on perinatal and high-risk obstetrics across the three locations. The Specialist will deliver high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care to pregnant individuals facing complex medical, surgical, and obstetric challenges. Additionally, this position encompasses educational responsibilities, participation in hospital-wide quality initiatives, and administrative leadership of the outpatient antepartum service.

This role provides a unique chance to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including general obstetricians, midwives, neonatologists, anesthesiologists, social workers, and care coordinators, all dedicated to enhancing perinatal outcomes, advancing maternal health equity, and ensuring patient satisfaction.

Position Responsibilities

• Clinical Care:
  • Conduct both in-person and remote consultations for high-risk and medically complex pregnant patients, addressing maternal and fetal complications across all three facilities.
  • Perform and interpret advanced obstetric ultrasounds, including Doppler studies and perinatal diagnostic procedures.
  • Collaborate with general obstetricians, midwives, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to optimize outcomes for mothers and their babies.
  • Provide consultative or direct care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients requiring maternal-fetal medicine management.
• Diagnostic and Procedural Duties:
  • Execute and interpret obstetric ultrasounds, including NT and Doppler studies.
  • Perform amniocentesis, cervical cerclage, external cephalic version, and antepartum fetal assessments (NST, BPP).
  • Maintain inpatient general obstetric privileges at Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan.
• Academics, Teaching, and Education:
  • Supervise and instruct residents, medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, sonographers, and related staff.
  • Engage in residency program activities at Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan, aligning with the learning objectives set by the program director, including lectures, simulations, and journal clubs.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to residents and medical students.
  • Support necessary research activities and participate in PI/QA projects as required.
  • Contribute to Grand Rounds and other departmental academic events as requested.
• Leadership and Administration:
  • Oversee and manage the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan, including antepartum testing areas and obstetric ultrasound services.
  • Collaborate with Maimonides Medical Center's Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine for clinical services.
  • Participate in PI/QA projects and committees as needed.
  • Engage in RCA activities as requested.
  • Prepare annual reports on data, including outcomes, for Department Chairs, to be included in the medical board's annual update, along with a divisional strategic plan.
  • Ensure acquisition and maintenance of AIUM credentialing for ultrasound units.

Regional Director Expectations

• The primary work locations will be Harlem Hospital, Lincoln Hospital, and Metropolitan Hospital.
• Provide clinical coverage, both in-person and remotely, for MFM services at the three facilities.
• Offer remote coverage as necessary for other facilities within the health system.
• Be available for emergency coverage at other facilities in the health system.
• Provide home on-call consult coverage during weeknights, weekends, and holidays for Harlem, Lincoln, and Metropolitan.
• Work schedules will be coordinated by departmental leadership and the Regional Director based on facility needs and patient acuity.
• This position is a full-time role (1.0 FTE), comprising approximately 0.4 FTE for administrative duties and 0.6 FTE for clinical responsibilities.
