Founded in 1938, the Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) is a non-profit organization serving youths to help them achieve academic success, build good character and citizenship, and lead healthy lifestyles. In our afterschool and summer camp programs, BGCN's team of dedicated youth development professionals helps ensure our members (ages 5-18) demonstrate good character and citizenship, live a healthy lifestyle, and graduate from high school with a plan for the future.

Job Summary and Purpose

The Social Worker will support, sustain, and grow the programs under the Department of the READY Family Wellness Center, which includes the Children's Dental Center, Wellness Center, and Vision services to meet the health, wellness, and social and emotional needs of our members, as well as better to support our families and the greater Newark community.

The Social Worker is responsible for including but not limited to acting as a liaison between BGCN and external health partners, assuming the role of task supervisor or field instructor for RFWC interns and maintaining a clinical caseload of 15-20 clients through BGCN's Mental Health Clinic. Lastly, the Wellness Coordinator will monitor various initiatives to support our members and families and enable them to thrive through ongoing relationships with caring adults in our sites, community, and home.

Required Qualifications

1. Master's degree in social work
2. Minimum of 1-2 years in related social work roles/fields
3. Minimum of 1-2 years post-degree experience in related social work roles/fields
4. LSW - Licensed Social Worker
5. Ability to organize work, prioritize, meet multiple deadlines, evaluate assigned program areas, and manage time and schedules
6. Self-starter, capable of giving directions to others and working under pressure in some instances
7. Familiarity with multicultural groups, previous work experience in a multicultural setting
8. Strong computer literacy skills with specific experience using Microsoft Office and Outlook email
9. Knowledge of Metrics and Outcome Evaluation
10. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Engage actively with youth, individually and in groups, in aftercare, summer camp, and during the school day in skill-building, psychoeducational, and therapeutic activities aimed at increasing their psychological well-being and social-emotional functioning.
2. Maintain a clinical caseload of 15-20 clients and 1-3 groups through BGCN's Mental Health Clinic.
3. Identify, implement, and evaluate culturally relevant and evidence-based interventions designed to redirect and de-escalate emotionally challenging or inappropriate behaviors and assist youth in resolving conflicts.
4. Conduct formal and informal assessments, including observations of youth behavior, collect and analyze data on progress and outcomes, and keep accurate documentation of all activities, being mindful of confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
5. Review and notate IEPs, 504 Plans, and other documents related to the well-being and functioning of identified members.
6. Inform families of RFWC services available.
7. Create program communications targeted toward parents and families.
8. Coordinate with program directors and site coordinators to plan and support regular parent and family engagement events at BGCN.
9. Work with families to address daily challenges, including access and connection to resources, healthy parenting, stress management, and other life skills.
10. Maintain confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals
11. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services and all significant interactions with clients.
12. Identify, analyze, and implement evidence-based interventions designed to achieve members' goals, evaluate program outcomes, and practice effectiveness, and promote social advocacy.
13. Outreach to community organizations to communicate wellness services offered at BGCN
14. Serve on BGCN's trauma-informed team to support the organization's ongoing practices and policies grounded in a trauma-informed framework.
15. Other duties as assigned

1. Use shared drive to access, create, and update shared program materials
2. Provide consultation to staff and supervisors during crises that arise with members
3. Continue to develop professional skills through training series and other opportunities as they arise
4. Responsibilities require evening, weekend, and on-call work in certain circumstances
