Job Summary

The Mass General Brigham Medical Group is a system-led operating entity formed by Mass General Brigham to deliver high quality, low cost, innovative community-based ambulatory care. This work stems from Mass General Brigham's unified system strategy to bring health care closer to patients while lowering total health care costs. The Medical Group provides a wide range of offerings, including primary care, specialty care, behavioral and mental health, and urgent care, both digitally as well as at physical locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. The group also offers outpatient surgery and endoscopy, imaging, cardiac testing, and infusion. We are proud to have launched a new Medicaid-focused clinic at our Riverwalk Internal Medicine practice in Lawrence, MA, designed to expand access to affordable, high-quality care. This clinic serves approximately 800 Medicaid ACO patients, including individuals new to our Medical Group as well as established patients with urgent or same-day care needs, helping ensure timely, compassionate, and comprehensive support for those who need it most.

Medical Assistant Position

We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to support the Medicaid Clinic! The clinic hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, so schedules are staggered accordingly. We are located at 500 Merrimack Street in Lawrence, MA 01843.

Summary: The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions

• Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
• Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
• Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
• Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
• Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
• Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred.

Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Various Issuers preferred.

Experience: Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required.
