Overview
The Vice President, Federal Government Affairs will lead the company’s federal advocacy strategy and engagement with Congress, the Administration, and key federal agencies. This role shapes policy outcomes aligned with the company’s strategic priorities, manages high‑level government relationships, and ensures coordinated, credible advocacy across stakeholders. It also oversees the political contributions plan and informs the PAC strategy over the 4‑year election cycle.
Role Responsibilities
- Set and execute federal advocacy strategy that directly advances corporate priorities and business outcomes.
- Translate complex federal policy dynamics into actionable insights, enabling informed decision‑making across the business.
- Engage with the Policy team to develop high‑priority company policy positions to shape RWECE’s platforms and company advocacy trade association engagement.
- Direct and hold accountable Washington, DC‑based political consultants and lobbyists, ensuring timely intelligence, high‑quality analysis, and contract performance.
- Oversee the development and execution of a multi‑year political engagement and PAC strategy that strengthens relationships and supports advocacy goals, aligning resources to priorities and delivering disciplined, multi‑year financial planning.
- Ensure full political and lobbying compliance, embedding a strong compliance culture across internal teams and external partners.
- Lead Executive Leadership federal engagement, including strategy development, briefings, and serving as primary liaison for senior‑level interactions.
- Position RWE US as a credible energy policy leader, in close coordination with Communications and Policy, among key federal policymakers, influencers, trade associations, and coalitions.
Job Requirements and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in policy management, political science or related field required.
- Advanced degree (Juris Doctor, Public Policy) a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of federal government policy/advocacy experience, with at least 7 years of private sector lobbying.
- Proven demonstration of developing advocacy plans and political contributions strategies.
- Demonstrated success advancing legislative or regulatory priorities at the federal level.
- Demonstrated relationships with key congressional and executive branch offices.
- Deep knowledge of federal legislative, regulatory, and appropriations processes.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in complex, high‑profile political environments.
- Experience working with policy influentials in government or private sector.
- Track record of shaping legislative outcomes directly through lobbying and indirectly through influencing trade associations.
- Ability to develop and execute political strategies to achieve high‑priority business outcomes.
- Experience supervising third‑party firms and consultants.
- Strong communication skills to multiple levels in the organization, including executive leadership.
- Collaboration and partnership skills for shared outcomes.
- Relationship building with key stakeholders internally and externally.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work in ambiguity and communicate effectively with team members.
- Office‑based role with some travel and visits to other RWE Americas offices and field locations.
- Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations.
Pay Range
The annual base salary range for this position in Washington D.C. is $246,000–$330,000.
