Brokerage Operations Associate I

This position is responsible for the full management of account transfer activities from initial intake through final settlement. The associate ensures each movement is accurate, timely, and aligned with regulatory expectations. Daily tasks involve processing account changes, validating information, and coordinating with multiple internal and external stakeholders. The role is critical to maintaining operational integrity as Alpaca transitions toward self-clearing capabilities. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for transfer-related inquiries and will execute workflows that support both inbound and outbound movements. This includes handling standard and non-standard transfer types while adhering to strict timelines. Collaboration with engineering and operations teams will help refine procedures and improve long-term reliability. You will be expected to manage complex scenarios with a high degree of ownership and follow-through. Key facts The position is fully remote and based in the Americas region. Work hours are structured to allow overlap with global partners and internal teams. The compensation range for this role is set between $74,000 and $92,000 USD on an annual basis. What you'll do Process incoming ACATS transfers with a focus on precision, detail, and adherence to industry timelines. Categorize transfer types including PTR, PTD, FOP, ACATS Free Deliveries, and other nonstandard movements. Perform root cause analysis on failed or rejected transfers and contribute to control improvements. Communicate with contra firms, transfer agents, and broker desks to resolve rejections and reconcile discrepancies. Validate contra account rules and ensure outbound shipments meet compliance and operational standards. Support automation initiatives that enable self-clearing workflows in partnership with engineering. Act as the internal subject matter expert for transfer policies and procedures. Prepare summaries of transfer activities for management review and trend analysis. Monitor queue health and prioritize work to meet service level expectations. Investigate transfer anomalies and drive resolution across internal systems and external partners. Maintain detailed records of actions taken and decisions made during the transfer lifecycle. Assist in the testing of new features or process changes related to account movements. Escalate complex issues to appropriate teams while maintaining clear documentation. Contribute feedback to improve the end-to-end transfer experience for internal and external users. Requirements A minimum of two years of direct experience with ACATS processing and related portal usage. Strong understanding of the ACATS lifecycle, status progression, and timing requirements. Familiarity with NSCC and DTCC rules, FINRA Rule 11870, and standard versus nonstandard transfer flows. Knowledge of U.S. broker-dealer back-office operations, including DTC settlements and fund structures. Ability to identify documentation gaps and execute appropriate rejection paths. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in processing time-sensitive activities. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders. High level of professionalism and integrity when handling sensitive account information. Willingness to adhere to established procedures and support control objectives. Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision while following established guidelines. Nice to have Experience with mass account conversions and participation in cross-functional projects. Exposure to automated workflows or system-driven transfer tools. Skills & tools No specific software tools are required for this role. Training will be provided for systems and processes unique to Alpaca's infrastructure.
