Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A contract opportunity is available for a compassionate and skilled educator to support elementary-aged students in a self-contained autism classroom. This role is designed for individuals passionate about providing specialized instruction and behavioral support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, fostering their growth in a structured, supportive environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility to obtain one
- Hands-on experience creating and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong understanding of special education compliance, documentation, and best practices
- Demonstrated classroom management skills and capability with positive behavior support
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals and communicate effectively with families
- Preferred: Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and in self-contained settings
- Familiarity with ABA strategies, visual schedules, social stories, and supporting students with significant behavioral or cognitive needs
- Training in crisis prevention or de-escalation is a plus
Core Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver instruction tailored to student IEPs, aligning with state standards
- Use evidence-based strategies for teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Implement positive behavior interventions and behavior plans as needed
- Supervise and coach paraprofessionals within the classroom
- Foster key skills, including communication, social interaction, and independent living
- Maintain a safe, predictable, and engaging classroom atmosphere
- Collect student progress data and ensure compliance with all documentation requirements
- Regularly collaborate with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other related service providers
