About the Role Our client, a global leader in supply chain logistics and international trade, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their expanding legal department. Key Responsibilities Provide expert legal counsel on all aspects of international trade law, including import/export controls, sanctions, customs regulations, and trade agreements. Develop, implement, and manage robust compliance programs to ensure adherence to international trade laws and company policies. Conduct legal research and analysis on complex trade-related issues and provide strategic advice to senior management and business units. Draft, review, and negotiate international commercial contracts, including distribution agreements, agency agreements, and supply chain contracts. Manage and oversee investigations into potential trade compliance violations and advise on corrective actions. Liaise with government agencies, customs authorities, and external legal counsel on international trade matters. Stay abreast of evolving international trade laws, regulations, and geopolitical developments impacting the company's global operations. Develop and deliver training programs to internal stakeholders on international trade compliance. Advise on legal aspects of cross-border investments, mergers, and acquisitions as they relate to trade implications. Manage legal risk associated with international supply chains and logistics. Requirements Admitted Attorney of the High Court of **South Africa** with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience, with a significant focus on international trade law, compliance, and cross-border transactions. In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, customs law, sanctions regimes (e.g., OFAC), and export control laws. Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance programs. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage a high workload, and meet deadlines in a remote setting. Experience in the logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing industries is highly advantageous. Proficiency in legal research and technology tools relevant to international trade law.
