Employment Type Full time Shift Evening Shift Description An Opportunity to Join our Remarkable Care Team as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Core Lab Department awaits YOU! Under general supervision, performs qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to established standards and practices. Analyzes test results, prepares samples for testing, and demonstrates unit/area‑designated competencies. Required Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure Education: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science. Experience: Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory is preferred. Certification/Licensure: Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory, Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) – ASCP, or NCLS certification preferred. This position may also be listed as: Medical Lab Scientist, Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist. Required Skills and Abilities Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with physicians, nursing unit personnel, other clients, and laboratory and health center personnel while reporting and explaining rest results. Analytical skills necessary to interpret and analyze test results of complex or unusual procedures and determine appropriate action for abnormal and atypical results. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail while performing job responsibilities. Organizational ability necessary to perform various tests on a large volume of samples with appropriate prioritization to ensure timely results. Records and/or enters laboratory computer results and advises supervisor of unusual or abnormal results before release. Reports results of stat and highly abnormal or unexpected results in a timely manner. Performs quality control, equipment maintenance, calibration, and operating laboratory equipment for relevant tests. Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens or equipment malfunctions. Prepares standards, reagents, and other materials used in testing. Contacts nursing unit or client office personnel regarding results for clarification. Actively participates in department meetings, continuing education, and quality assurance programs. Provides quality patient care by considering age‑specific, developmental, and cultural needs. Demonstrates unit/area competencies. Assists in training of technologists, technicians, lab assistants, clerical staff and others. Assumes Tech‑in‑Charge duties as assigned. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships, addresses conflicts constructively, and aids problem identification and resolution. Maintains confidentiality of patient, physician, and visitor information. Reports hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
