POSITION : School Nurse

JOB SUMMARY :

The nurse must be able to assess the physical, social and emotional/mental health needs of students. The nurse should be proactive in dealing with health issues that affect students in order to promote optimal learning in the educational setting. The nurse should be comfortable working with families, students and a variety of professionals on a daily basis.

QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Possess a BSN degree with current Michigan Registered Nurse License, and be eligible for School Nurse Certification according to the provision on Act 187 of the Public Acts of 1972.
2. Public Health Nursing or School Nursing experience preferred.

DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Continuous 1-on-1 Nursing: Deliver dedicated, continuous medical care and monitoring tailored to the student's specific acute, chronic, or specialized healthcare needs throughout the school day.
2. Individualized Care Plans: Develop, implement, and manage direct clinical care protocols to address health conditions, administer medications, and respond to acute medical events.
3. Daily Documentation: Maintain detailed, confidential daily clinical records, logging treatments, medications administered, vital signs, and health observations in compliance with legal and district standards.
4. Educational Integration: Provide targeted health support to the student and family to minimize medical barriers, ensuring maximum physical access and participation in classroom activities.
5. Health Program Oversight: Assist in the coordination, daily oversight, and quality assurance of the overall school health services program.
6. Staff & Student Education: Conduct necessary health training, delegation guidance, and protocol instruction for school personnel, substitute caregivers, and student nurses.
7. Additional Responsibilities: May on rare occasions require weekend and/or evening coverage, provide CPR Training.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.

EVALUATION : Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.

The fingerprinting is conducted by a third party and is at the expense of the applicant. Cost for fingerprinting is approximately $70.00.
