Job Description
Make a difference in the lives of students as a reading specialist in a dynamic school environment. This full-time contract role runs from August 24, 2026, to June 10, 2027, and offers the opportunity to support and empower learners in grades K-5 by developing their reading skills through evidence-based strategies.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Pennsylvania reading specialist certification required
- Active PA teaching certification or licensure
- At least one year of direct, school-based experience as a reading specialist
- Demonstrated expertise in subject matter, instructional methods, and resource materials related to reading intervention
- Strong skills in classroom and behavioral management
- Experience working within urban school communities
- Proficiency in creating engaging lesson plans aligned with state and district standards, utilizing formative assessments, and providing differentiated instruction
- Ability to obtain and maintain all required PA clearances
- Reliable access to transportation
- Comfort working both onsite and within the district’s unique setting
Major Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to implement reading programs that meet the needs of a diverse caseload at the elementary level
- Design and deliver specialized instruction based on student data to improve reading achievement
- Monitor progress through ongoing assessment and adjust strategies as needed
- Develop lesson plans that challenge and support students at various reading levels
- Build positive relationships with students and maintain effective classroom structure
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and parent conferences as required
